Title: Maintenance Technician
Reports To: Director of Buildings & Grounds
Work Year: 12 months
Pay: Direct Deposit the last day of the month
SUMMARY:
Under the Director of Building and Grounds, work within the framework of district policy, Maintenance performs skilled work in the general maintenance and repair of site and building infrastructure. Specific assignments are received in the form of oral or written preventive maintenance instructions or Help Desk Tickets. |
EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of two years experience in: General Building Maintenance
TECHNICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
Oral and written communication skills
English language skills (the ability to read, write, and speak English)
Moderate computer skills/ability to use email effectively
Interpersonal relationship skills
Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse and educational backgrounds
Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace
Must follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment, and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator, district administrator or authorities
Safely and effectively operate custodial and maintenance equipment and tools. This includes but is not limited to the following: vacuums, carpet extractors. floor scrubbers and buffers, grounds equipment, electric hand held tools, basic hand held tools, and other equipment used in custodial maintenance
Knowledge of proper cleaning procedures and preventative measures when using cleaning agents and implementing IPM practices.
Constantly reaching, bending, stooping, ability to climb ladders, and be on your feet 8 hours/day
Lifting 60-80 lbs on a frequent basis and up to 100 lbs on an occasional basis.
Ability to promote and follow building and departmental policies
Apply and follow all school district policies and state of Iowa laws.
MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT OPERATING KNOWLEDGE:
General power and hand tools; required at entry
Mowers, trucks and other ground equipment; must acquire ability to operate within probationary period
Computer; required at entry
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Listed below are the essential tasks required for this job.

1. Performs skilled or semi-skilled tasks for the maintenance and repair of site and building infrastructure. |
2. Maintains, repairs, or replaces a variety of building and site equipment and components |
3. Makes adjustments, lubricates, repairs and replaces worn out site and building components. |
4. Assists other Maintenance trades |
5. Communicates and coordinates problem resolution with schools, district staff and outside contractors. |
7. Repairs fences, playground, sports equipment and other site infrastructure. |
8. Responds to call outs for emergencies and snow removal. |
9. Carries out oral and written directions. Accurately documents work performed on work orders defining problem and solution. |
10. Makes repairs to equipment; tightens nuts and bolts, replaces worn parts, hangs and repairs doors, hardware, walls and ceilings; cement work, lays flooring, performs basic carpentry work. |
