The Opportunity
Boston Bruins is hiring an Intern for the Willie O'Ree Internship in Boston, Massachusetts. This internship is a 6-month internship split between the Boston Bruins Foundation and the Community Relations and Youth Hockey department.
The Foundation and Community Relations team was also honored to support two momentous celebrations last season. The first was the retiring of Willie O’Ree’s number 22 to the TD Garden rafters in January, which will forever represent O’Ree’s lasting legacy of inclusivity and equality across the hockey community after breaking the NHL color barrier 1958.
Fall
Tenure: September/October to January (Duration subject to change/adjustment)
Obligation: Minimum of 25 hours Boston Bruins home games and Boston Bruins Foundation activities
Winter-Spring
Tenure: January to April (Duration subject to change/adjustment)

Responsibilities
Bruins Foundation October-January
- Assist Boston Bruins staff with daily activities and responsibilities.
- Review and respond to donation requests and grant applications.
- Respond to local charity requests.
- Assist in organizing and conducting Boston Bruins Foundation events such as the Boston Bruins Golf Tournament, Bowl with a Bruin, and others.
- Assist in running the game day Foundation table at all Bruins games.
- Manage Boston Bruins Foundation databases, including those related to events, grants, and donations.
- Communicate daily with Bruins Foundation supporters, fans, and others regarding many different Foundation topics.
Community Relations- January-April
- Assist Community Relations staff with daily activities and projects.
- Contribute to the development and coordination of Community Relations and Youth Hockey programs.
- Create and assist with promotional ideas and events for current and potential Boston Bruins Community Relations strategies and sponsors.
- Write event recaps and keep a comprehensive record of media clips that cover the Boston Bruins' special events.
- Participate on the Bruins Game Night Staff assisting with the fulfillment of Fan Experiences and other Community Relations Activities.
- Attend and contribute to all Boston Bruins special events including Community Relations and Youth Hockey events.
- Assist at team signings, events, and appearances when necessary.
- Serve as a liaison to the community by responding to fan requests in a timely manner.
- Manage several team-related databases including those related to donations, programs, and events.
- Receive, process, and respond to local charity requests.
- Collect and respond to fan mail.
- Inventory of all signed items and premium items.
- Keep storage units organized.
Qualifications
- All interns will be required to handle computer applications with an emphasis on Microsoft Office programs (i.e., Excel, Word, etc.).
- Internships conducted by the Boston Bruins Foundation are Volunteer-based and will be eligible for college credit.
- Interns are required to work all games days and major team events.
- Must have a flexible schedule and be willing to work all Bruins' home games, major events, and additional community activities when asked.
Physical Requirements
- Applicants must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds and perform some manual labor as an essential function of the position.
