What are the responsibilities and job description for the Master Teacher - Residential Program position at Boston Higashi School?
JOB GOAL: Will assist the Division Directors and Assistant Division Directors in the residence with his/her responsibilities and will be considered “in-training” for eventual promotion to an advanced position. Will be an active participant in the development of the assigned division. Will work with the Division Directors to gain the knowledge necessary in this position.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Attend to the personal needs of the students in conjunction with the master teacher, teaching normal daily living skills in accordance with Daily Life Therapy.
- Assist the Division Directors, Assistant Division Directors to develop weekly plans including activities designed to meet specific Individual Service Plan (ISP) objectives.
- Maintain a positive relationship through on-going communication with day program staff.
- Assist the Division Directors, Assistant Division Directors to review and assist in the development of Educational Assessments, ISP’s and quarterly progress reports.
- Assist in the training of Overnight Direct Care staff and Residential Instructors I staff.
- With the Division Directors, Assistant Division Directors provide information to assist with performance evaluations for Overnight Direct Care staff and Residential Instructors I staff.
- Maintain continuous information sharing, including staff, student and environmental issues, with the Division Directors and Assistant Division Directors.
- Document and maintain student records as necessary and follow student information confidentiality rules and regulations.
- Assist the Division Director and Assistant Division Directors to respond to parents’ communication promptly, respectfully, and discreetly and record according to designated procedures.
- Participate in all student activities including extensive physical exercise and other various activities.
- Strive to maintain an open and positive atmosphere within the organization. This includes respect for the decisions of the administration and following directions, guidance and supervision of the Administrative Staff.
- Review in-service materials and information periodically, encourage the sharing of expertise information and materials among staff.
- Attend daily and weekly staff meetings, and participate in division meetings.
- Participate in IEP and team meetings as requested by the Division Director.
- Create and maintain a safe educational environment for students and staff.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Division Directors, Director of the Residence and/or Director of Programming
Qualifications:
- Bachelor Degree or relevant experience preferred
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience teaching in the residential program under the Daily Life Therapy Methodology.
- Must be able to work in a multicultural environment and possess excellent interpersonal and communication and leadership skills
- Possess a positive and professional attitude and be able to communicate well with co-workers
