Registered Nurse - Corrections

Botetourt County Sheriff's Office is currently accepting applications to fill a Registered Nurse - Corrections.

The Registered Nurse - Corrections will provide medical treatment to the inmates confined in the Botetourt County Jail. Upon intake, each inmate will receive a health assessment to determine if further treatment is needed. The Registered Nurse - Corrections must work and consult with the Botetourt County Jail Medical Director to determine the best path of treatment for inmates.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Current, unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse in Virginia
• Current CPR registration
• Experience in a correctional setting preferred, but not required
• No criminal record.
• Valid Virginia driver’s license with good driving record.
• Good credit history.
• Citizen of the United States or have valid proof that citizenship is being sought.

Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Primary Duties

• Under supervision of a physician/doctor, assists in the assessment of the physical, psychological and social dimensions of patients in in take and, as necessary, in the housing units
• Assists in planning and implementing an individual’s treatment program using available resources and consulting provider or other staff
• Implements clinical and technical aspects of care in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols. Intervenes with proper safety techniques, procedures and standard precautions
• Administers medications according to proper techniques and procedures including IV therapy and all other approved routes of administration
• Uses pharmacy knowledge and available resources to include drug reaction and overdose in administration of medications
• Implements medical plans through obtaining diagnostic tests in accordance with Health Care Provider’s orders and protocols
• Obtains body fluid specimens and performs EKG's using proper techniques and procedures
• Communicates information to ancillary departments using established referral process
• Assists the Health Care Provider in medical or minor surgical procedures as necessary and/or requested to meet individual needs of patients
• Implement nutrition and therapeutic diet plan through proper techniques and procedures as ordered by Health Care Provider
• Documents nursing encounters using the SOAP form of charting as required by policy and procedure
• Communicates information to medical staff, physician and other staff as necessary
• Any other duties as assigned by the Sheriff
