BOURNE PUBLIC SCHOOLS Substitute Teacher Job Description Reports to: Principal of the building Job Goal: To provide instruction, manage the classroom environment, and fulfill the daily responsibilities of a teacher/staff member in their absence Responsibilities: 1. Follows the teachers/staff members schedule for the day, including duties for that day 2. Implements daily lesson plan(s) as left by the teacher; consults with building administration to resolve questions and/or concerns 3. Provides supervision of students throughout the school day across settings and activities 4. Maintains a safe classroom environment 5. Implement plans for students, including special education, health care, and 504 plans as necessary and provided 6. Complete daily/class attendance and other record keeping as required by the teacher and/or school 7. Provides a written summary of the work completed and overall behavior of each class; makes the teacher aware of special situations or problems that may have occurred 8. Complies with all building procedures, expectations, and schedules 9. Ensures the proper use and care of school property 10. Respond to the needs of the students in the absence of the teacher 11. Perform assigned duties such as lunch recess, bus, hall, etc. 12. Completes classroom preparation, organization and clean up when necessary 13. Support the social emotional needs of students through positive relationship building 14. Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal and/or assigned teacher Essential Functions of the Job: 1. Maintain a record of regular attendance, arrive and depart at specified contractual times and notify the appropriate personnel when absent 2. Physical agility and strength to perform job related tasks appropriate for the age and/or grade level 3. Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, and run 4. Be able to occasionally lift and/or move students/objects 5. Must be able to work in a noisy, stressful, high pressure environment and maintain student safety 6. Ability to respond to emergency situations 7. May be exposed to bodily fluids including saliva, urine, feces, vomit, blood, and/or other bodily fluids 8. May be required to assist with student personal hygiene and toileting 9. Ability to complete district approved de-escalation and safety training 10. Ensure confidentiality regarding all personal information and educational records concerning students and their families 11. Maintain professional boundaries with students and families 12. Ability to navigate public transportation 13.
