Purpose

Perform all levels of mechanical engineering and design related to oil and gas or industrial facilities including the development of construction documents as well as project and staff management.



Responsibilities

Leadership and Direction

  • Receive broad guidance relating to overall key objectives, critical issues, new concepts, with parameters for execution. Receive direction on highly complex assignments.
  • Independently apply extensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices related to facility engineering in the oil and gas and industrial related clients using advanced engineering techniques and principals and is reviewed by more senior staff to ensure application of sound professional judgement. Review work produced by staff for quality assurance.

At the Operational and Company Level

  • Actively market the firm’s capabilities enhance relationships with existing
  • Serve as a mentor, resource, and trainer for junior Engineers and less experienced Project
  • Represent project team in client communications and project
  • Work with engineering teams, clients, subcontractors, and design teams on moderately complex engineering project

Do the Work

  • Design complex mechanical systems in accordance with current code requirements and sound engineering principles.
  • Design, specify, and layout mechanical systems as applicable to the project type (including piping, equipment, schedules, notes, etc.) according to the clients drafting standards.
  • Conceptualize the initial mechanical approach for facilities.
  • Create reports such as basis of designs, written narratives, field observations, etc.
  • Responsible for more complex tasks and/or designs within project assignments.
  • Resolves complex design issues with clients.
  • Apply broad knowledge of engineering principles and procedures.
  • Oversee mechanical design through project construction/completion.
  • Communicate effectively with engineers, project manager, and the client.
  • Conduct field observation visits to accurately as-build the existing field construction.
  • Organize/prioritize multiple tasks to complete the design in a sequential efficient manner.
  • Accurately produce the project construction documents to meet milestone schedules within a predetermined hourly budget.
  • Assist in developing construction cost estimates for mechanical related systems, as needed.
  • Attend coordination and design meetings, as needed.
  • Address comments from clients; adjust designs accordingly.
  • Review project related construction administrative items (RFI's, change order proposals) as needed.
  • Complete design work and models using computer software.
  • Make design recommendations, adaptations, and modifications.
  • Assist with the development of drawing packages, specifications, and reports.
  • Work closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.
  • Review drawings and prepare or review technical specifications, contract documents, and estimates.
  • Provide technical assistance in the resolution of design problems that may include performing field investigation or inspections, detailed design work and calculations, and detailed checking of design computations done by others, or general coordination of specific design aspects into a project.
  • Work within established project budgets.
  • Possess and continue to develop a strong working knowledge of all applicable codes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field required.
  • Ten or more (10 ) years of relevant industry-related experience.
  • EIT strongly preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred.
  • Experience with computer applications and mechanical engineering software
  • Prepare reports, narratives, submittal documents, and response letters.
  • Ability to multi-task and coordinate on multiple projects, with multiple clients and sub-consultants.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Projects).


Physical Demands and Working Environment

  • Primarily indoor professional office environment which may include bright/dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic.
  • Mobility around an office environment.
  • Frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
  • Occasional travel for site and client visits.
  • Occasional outdoor work environment which may include adverse weather conditions, varying temperatures, excessive noise, and/or potential hazards.
  • Mobility around a job/construction site to include walking, bending, crawling, climbing, use of ladders, squatting, or kneeling and wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including occasional review of elevated surfaces and roofs.
  • Occasional lifting or carrying up to 20 pounds.
  • Occasional pushing or pulling up to 20 pounds.
  • Occasional reaching outward or above shoulder.
