Transportation Engineering Technician

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Transportation Engineering Technician provides engineering and design support, as well as/ computer-aided design (CAD), on transportation (roadway and transit) projects. Works with engineers and other technical individuals to develop project deliverables at any stage of project development (advance project development (preliminary engineering, schematics, etc.), final design, and plans, specifications, & estimates (PS&E)) for rural, urban, suburban, and/or metro transportation projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Use Bentley software platforms (at a minimum MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer (ORD), ProjectWise) to design and develop transportation projects in 2D and/or 3D, as required, including terrain modeling, creating alignments and cross-sections, and analyzing corridors.
• Accurately review and incorporate field survey data and information for existing base conditions.
• Create accurate & detailed computer-aided drawings, exhibits, plan sheets and surface modeling.
• Establish project-specific standards for software, techniques and tools to prepare technical drawings in a Team environment.
• Identify and incorporate project-specific design criteria parameters and develop efficient / effective design solutions.
• Ensure uniformity and accuracy in all facets of project deliverables production as per project requirements.
• Assist engineers in the documentation of the engineering work effort for each project (thru engineering reports, technical memorandums, etc.).
• Organize and maintain project files.
• Be proactive to remain technically current in the latest version of engineering and CAD software.
• Actively participate in implementing improvement initiatives to improve project quality and technical capabilities.
• Train members of project design team on various design tasks and tools.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum 2 years of transportation engineering support / CAD experience.
• Advanced capabilities in Bentley software platforms.
• Comprehensive experience with design standards and guidelines,
• Effective communication skills, both oral and written, and able to work well in a team environment.
• Detail oriented and self-starter.
• Good problem-solving skills.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

• Greater than 5 years of transportation engineering support / CAD experience.
• Extensive experience in Bentley software platforms.
• Experience with TxDOT Roadway Design Manual and/or other TxDOT standards and guidelines a plus.
