Job Description
Position Title: IT Support and Maker Space Coordinator
Department: Programs
Reports to: Chief Officer of Operations and Finance
Status: Full-Time, Non-exempt
Boys and Girls Club of Salem Mission Statement:
“To inspire and enable all youth grades 1-12, especially youth from disadvantaged circumstances, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens through the development of a positive self-image and self-reliance.”
Scope of Position:
The function of IT Support and Maker Space Coordinator is to work in conjunction with our -- program staff to advise/assist with tech-based programming for our Club members. This position also provides office tech support for our employees (Program, Administrative, Bingo).
Education and Work Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required. Preferred some college or actively working towards a degree in a related field.
- Prior experience in youth development, preferably with Boys and Girls Clubs.
- Solid working knowledge of youth development principles and guidance techniques, including experience working directly with youths.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
- Demonstrate the ability to plan and implement programs that engage youth.
- Computer efficient; a solid working knowledge of Windows OS and Mac OS, email, Internet use and research.
- The aptitude to learn new technology.
- Ability to assist in analyzing and resolving computer problems.
- Regular and punctual attendance is essential function of this position.
- Safely operate a motor vehicle that could include truck, passenger car and/or passenger van, and Club buses.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Technology Maintenance & Support – 70%
- Provides individual and/or group instruction and training to staff on MyClubHub software.
- Under guidance from the IT department: install and configure hardware and software components, repair or replace damaged hardware, upgrade systems to enable compatible software, install and upgrade antivirus software.
- Reviews and signs off on internet, VOIP phone, printer, and all other technology billing.
- May troubleshoot and resolve system hardware, software, and network failures and conflicts.
- Assists with the installation, configuration and maintenance of computers, workstations, and other related equipment and devices.
- Participates in the review, evaluation and recommendation of solutions relating to hardware and software acquisitions and/or network updates with IT department.
- Manage organizational IT resources and needs, including upkeep of technology hardware and software and oversight of third-party IT vendor contracts (i.e. BizTech, Verizon, and Comcast)
- Maintain a system of “tech checkups” including software updates, hardware repairs, and other related technology upkeep services; regularly service devises as needed.
- Maintain a record system for all devices used by staff and youth.
- Maintain log of Makerspace materials checked out to other Club sites (i.e. musical, STEM, photography, etc.)
- Purchases supplies, technology and equipment, in compliance with standards and procedures.
- Recommend changes to policies or procedures in order to improve operations, such as tech needs.
Programming Development and Implementation – 20%
- Run two (2) “semesters” of school year programming and one (1) semester of summer program.
- Run a total of 1-3 programs per semester. Programs must range in length of 4-6 weeks.
- Run 1-3 programs per week, one (1) being LEGO Education or BGCA approved program.
- Coordinate with Branch Directors and T3 department to advise/assist with tech-based programming (i.e. LEGO Education, MyFuture.net, UPS Road Code).
- Programs must relate to STEAM disciplines (science, tech, engineering, arts, math).
- Oversee, assist, and correct input of member information and progression through activities as necessary (age, grade, advancement, grant reporting, etc.).
- Ensure all members complete and submit Technology Use Agreement related forms.
- Oversee MyFuture.net or other cyber safety program to ensure youth understand and meet requirements for tech use.
- Prep all materials and setup Makerspace before Club members utilize program area.
- Ensure Makerspace area is tidy and clean before leaving the Club for the day.
- Recruit a minimum of two (2) community partners/volunteers per semester (fall and spring) for an on-going or standalone special event or activity.
- Monitor safety and supervision of youth at all times during program.
Advisor for Technology Equipment, Programs and safety – 10%
- Work with Club/Program Directors to establish proper behavior and safety expectations for Club members.
- Assist with purchasing, set up, and deployment of new technology at all Club sites.
- Serve as a consultant and advisor for staff at other Club sites, supporting tech-related programs and positions (i.e. LEGO Education, MyFuture.net, UPS Road Code and all other BGCA approved programs).
RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal: Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer),
Club members, and supervisor.
External: Maintains contact with vendors, suppliers, donors, contracted IT professionals and other applicable parties.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be well groomed and adhere to the required dress code.
- Must be able to perform tasks of a repetitive nature without diminishing performance.
- Must be able to work long periods of time sitting or standing at a desk while using a computer keyboard, monitors, or other technology.
- Must be able to stand and sit for extended periods and be able to walk moderate distances.
- Must be able to regularly work and/or drive in diverse outdoor weather conditions.
Working Conditions:
Must work and interact with co-workers and public in a positive, professional manner inconformity with the Boys and Girls Club Mission Statement. Will work with people of diverse backgrounds and in diverse circumstance.
Works with limited supervision individually and in a team setting with other professionals.
This position requires the mental aptitude to organize projects, set priorities, calculate, catalogue, inspect, analyze plans, comprehend, and cooperate with others. Therefore, the employee must be able to comprehend assignments and/or ask for additional information or clarification until the assignment is understood.
Must be available to answer emails, phone calls, and text messages during business hours.
May be asked to assist with A/V implementation and setup (i.e. Zoom conference meetings).
Additional requirements:
- Must have a demonstrated enthusiasm and passion for the Boys & Girls Club’s work, be willing to work weekends and evenings during Club events as required by the job.
- Must have a valid Oregon driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Must successfully pass BGCA driving test requirements.
- Ability to pass a drug and alcohol screening test.
- Candidate chosen for this position will be required to pass a criminal background check.
