TITLE: Teen Services Specialist

REPORTS TO: Senior Teen Services Director
FLSA STATUS: Full-Time (40/week), NonExempt
Pay Rate: $19/hour
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Teen Services Specialist is responsible for organizing and co-facilitating workshops for two teen programs: Training Teens for Tomorrow (T3) and Be Great by 8th (GB8), along with related activities that contribute to the priority outcomes of Academic Success, Good Character and Citizenship, and Healthy Lifestyles. The Teen Services Specialist is also responsible for collecting and inputting all program data following each workshop. Additionally, they will act as the point person for Teen Services when facilitating T3 and GB8 workshops in club branches.
Note: this is a grant-funded position. Annual renewal is contingent on the continuation of grant funding. (Due to the COVID pandemic and to ensure the safety of staff, members, the greater community, and compliance with state guidelines, work from home may be required.)
KEY ROLES:
Prepare Youth for Success
1. Facilitate workshops, service projects, and activities designed to equip youth for success.
2. Provide encouragement, guidance, and role modeling to members.
3. Regularly assess the workshop’s success against program goals, suggest changes based on member needs, and actively contribute to weekly staff meetings for continuous improvement.
Health and Safety
4. Collaborate with Teen Coordinators and Branch Directors to ensure a safe and inclusive environment during every workshop.
5. Implement strategies for conflict resolution and create a safe space for open communication among members.
6. Facilitate workshops with a trauma-informed lens, providing additional and tailored support to members as needed.
7. Collaborate with Teen Services staff to ensure a productive, respectful, inclusive, and safe work environment.
Program Development and Implementation
8. Purchase supplies, stay within budget, and collaborate in co-facilitating workshops across all branches.
9. Provide recommendations for diverse workshop topics, service projects, college tours, and activities to the Teen Services Manager, drawing on feedback from Teen Coordinators and input from teen members.
10. Collect and input GB8 and T3 program data into My Club Hub following each workshop.
11. Regularly host new member orientation.
12. Enhance program participation across all branches by employing creative strategies.
13. Participate in community outreach, under the guidance of the Senior Teen Services Director, to actively encourage engagement and interest in the programs.
Supervision
14. Provide direct support to Teen Coordinators by modeling good facilitation skills.
15. Train and provide direct supervision to volunteers as needed.
16. Act as the point person for Teen Services when facilitating T3 and GB8 workshops in club branches.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. On occasion, the Teen Services Specialist may be required to work special events throughout the year.
2. This position will be required to drive the club van and/or bus.
RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal: Stay in regular communication with BGC staff, program members, and supervisor. This includes but not limited to exchanging information, explaining guidelines or instructions, discussing issues, and sharing/receiving constructive feedback.
External: Assist the Teen Services Director as needed in maintaining communication with external community partners, schools, and parents of members. Support the organization's initiatives to engage the higher education community in teen programming through partnerships with universities, collaborations with career and trade schools, organizing college tours, and facilitating scholarship opportunities.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
● A Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred. Education may be substituted for work
experience on a case-by-case basis.
● Demonstrated ability to effectively plan and facilitate workshops for youth grades 6-12.
● Ability to train, supervise, and motivate volunteers as needed.
Ability to speak in public, with prior experience presenting in individual and group settings.
● Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment.
● Proficient in computer use, Zoom Video Program, Microsoft Office suite applications and Google Drive.
● Mandatory CPR and First Aid Certifications (within 90 days).
● Valid State Driver’s License.
● Ability to pass drug test and background checks.
● Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
● Prior experience working with grant-funded programs is preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
● Ability to speak, hear, and maintain high mental and visual attention at all times.
● Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, be able to stand and sit for extended periods and be able to
walk moderate distances.
● Ability to travel between locations and attend meetings outside of regular operating hours.
● Typical work hours: School Year - 10am-7pm (Non-School Days 8:30am – 5:30pm), Monday-Friday
with 1 hour break daily; Some weekend hours may be necessary, but should not exceed 40 hours per week.
● Ability to drive a 14 passenger bus, with a valid driver's license and clean driving record.
