Description

Under the guidance of the Vice President of Finance and Administration, the Human Resource Director will develop and execute HR strategy in support of Boys & Girls Clubs of Topeka’s (BGCT) culture, mission, goals, and values. The Human Resources Director will guide and administer Human Resource programs in the areas of recruitment, onboarding, benefits and compensation, employee relations, compliance, training and development, and diversity, equity, and inclusion.

HR Leadership

  • Provides guidance to employees regarding all aspects of human resources, including recruitment and retention, compensation and benefits, employee relations, performance management, training and development, and diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Partners with the Executive Leadership Team on major organizational initiatives and ensures all initiatives align with BGCT’s mission and workplace culture.
  • Develops human resource policies, and strategies to support BGCT.
  • Ensures the fair and equal treatment of employees by interpreting and administering BGCT’s policies and practices consistently and transparently.
  • Actively develops diversity and inclusion initiatives by reviewing and implementing cultural strategies, processes, and organizational practices that support individual worth and dignity and where all are equally valued, engaged, recognized, and rewarded.
  • Owns the employment lifecycle and coordinates all workforce initiatives from recruitment to separation.
  • Fosters a productive and engaging work environment where employees feel safe, comfortable, engaged, and capable to be successful

Recruitment and Selection

  • Develops and drives strategic recruitment, engagement, and retention plans
  • Coordinates and oversees the full life-cycle recruitment process for full and part-time hires
  • Meets BGCT’s goals for building and maintaining diversity, equity, and inclusion

Compensation and Benefits

  • Collaborates with VP of Finance and Administration to develop and implement compensation and benefits plans that are cost effective

Employee Relations

  • Investigates confidential employee relations issues, complaints, and grievances, and exercises sound discretionary judgment in recommending resolution
  • Proactively advises, counsels, and coaches’ supervisors and management on employee relations and management issues
  • Builds employee confidence through scheduled site visits and presence at employee events and meetings

Training, Onboarding and Orientation

  • Prepares new / returning employees to meet organizational standards through ownership of the onboarding and orientation process
  • Provides opportunities for employees to gain necessary skills for success both within and outside of the organization through a comprehensive employee development program

Performance Management and Development

  • Evaluates, revises, and oversees the administration of the annual performance management processes
  • Collaborates with leadership to create clear professional development opportunities and career paths
  • Provides coaching, guidance, and direction to leadership in the areas of performance management, giving feedback, and enabling employee development.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Use computers and computer systems (including hardware & software) to enter data, and/or process information.
  2. Observe, receive, and otherwise obtain information from all relevant sources.
  3. Use relevant information & individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards.
  4. Perform special assignments and assist with special projects as directed by the Chief Executive Officer or VP of Finance and Administration.
  5. Utilize effective communication skills and professional standards of conflict resolution should a conflict arise.
  6. Additional duties as assigned by supervisor.

RELATIONSHIPS

Internal: Work with BGCT team to ensure personnel, payroll and related systems are organized, efficient and effective. Work closely with the VP of Finance to meet the responsibilities of the organization as well as efficient record keeping practices in accordance with all applicable laws regarding filing systems for Human Resources, personnel, payroll, record retention, etc. Interacts regularly with Executive personnel & other staff and as assigned with the Board and its Committees.

External: Maintain contact with BGCA on initiatives, practices, incentives, and operating procedures. Routinely and regularly represent the BGCT in public with external community groups, board of directors, schools, BGCA, funders, local / state / federal government officials, and business community.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year accredited college or university preferred
  • 5-7 years’ work experience in human resource management, with at least one year at the management level in the not-for-profit sector

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Experience in all key areas of human resources, including benefits administration, employee relations, training and development, and compliance.
  • Develop and establish standards of excellence

  • Strong attention to detail
  • Able to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Microsoft Office skill set required
  • Paycom HRIS experience preferred
  • Self-motivated

  • Interpersonal skill development and maintenance
  • Strong communication skills, both oral & written
