TYPE OF POSITION: RegularPart Time (10-20 hours per week during the School Year), Part Time to Full Time in the summer months, Non-Exempt
JOB SUMMARY: The Youth Development Specialist is responsible for utilizing the resources of the organization to assist with the services and programs for the club members and community’s youth. The 21st Century Grant Youth Development Specialist is a grant funded position.
MAJOR RESPONSIBLITIES:
- Responsible for implementing 21st Century Grant high yield learning activities, homework assistance and tutoring, running educational activities during Power Time program
- Responsible assisting staff with supervision of education, recreation, and art programs for the organization’s youth
- Assist staff in stimulating participation of youth in activities and tracking attendance
- Provide leadership, direction, and problem solving in delivering guidance services
- Conducts National Boys and Girls Club Programs
- Supervise care and maintenance of department equipment, supplies, and facilities
- Contributes to the creation of the overall Club’s climate for youth development
- Other duties as assigned
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- Experience working with youth in grades K-12, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience in supervising programs and services for youth, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to multi-task
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
1. May have to manage a number of projects at one time, and may be interrupted frequently to meet the needs of youth
2. Must remain patient and committed to the activities
3. Must be able to complete tasks while working in a busy, noisy environment
4. May deliver programs in a variety of locations and may have to transport, lift and carry equipment and supplies
5. May have to engage in conflict resolution or crisis management.
