Position: Teen Program Coordinator
Located: 383 Hickory Street, Charlottesville, VA 22902
Reports to: Unit Director
Position Status: Full-Time, Non-exempt
Compensation: $21.00-$23.50/hour
Position Summary: The Teen Program Coordinator will: engage and inspire teen members to learn and grow to be responsible adults. Plan, implement, supervise and evaluate activities provided within the Teen Program area, utilizing programs such as Keystone Club, Torch Club, Member of the Month, Sports Club, Youth of the Year, etc. Provide quality programming to educate teen members on Good Character and Citizenship, Academic Success and Healthy Lifestyles. Prepare teen members for on-time grade promotion by creating educational activities that are fun and engaging. Recommend ways to expand teen programming in all core program areas and explore new programs or opportunities to enhance member experiences.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Ensure programs, services and activities prepare youth for success in all areas, including on-time graduation, healthy lifestyles, and service to the community
- Promote health and safety of members and quality in programs at all times
- Provide guidance and role modeling to members
- Plan, organize, and implement a range of program services and activities for members
- Initiate new programs with the approval of the Unit Director
- Recommend the development of service programs
- Promote and stimulate program participation
- Ensure quality improvement by monitoring and evaluating program achievement against target goals; recommend modifications that respond to member needs and interests
- Participate in staff meetings
- Recommend requisitions, as necessary, controlling expenditures against monthly supply budget
- Manage administrative systems by registering new members and participating in their Club orientation process, and retention over time
- Collaborate with Managers and Supervisors in overlapping areas to develop and structure quality programming including Club and community-focused objectives
- Plan and participate in special programs and/or events
- Drive club bus/van to and from events
- Engage in community outreach to partner agencies
- Create and supports opportunities, systems, and expectations that promote an organizational culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Create, foster and maintain a respectful and inclusive environment for all people
Relationships:
Internal: Maintain effective communication with members, employees, volunteers, supervisors and community partners.
External: Maintain contact with external community agencies and partners
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of youth development
- Ability to motivate youth and proactively manage behavior problems
- Ability to engage in restorative practices to respond to disagreements among members
- Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment
- Ability to develop systems for goal setting and achievement in main program areas
- Experience interacting with the general public while positively representing the organization
- Ability to develop and use collaborative relationships to build informal or formal teams and accomplish team goals
- Demonstrated experience improving work processes, products and services.
- Attention to detail, ensuring that work is free from errors and is accomplished safely
- Initiative to correct and solve problems
- Active passion, engagement, and commitment to the work, goals, and core values of the Boys & Girls Clubs
Education and Certifications:
- Must be at least 18 years old
- High School diploma required
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent preferred but not required
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in planning and implementing programs
- Valid State Driver’s License
- CPR and First Aid Certifications or willingness to become certified
Physical Requirements and Work Conditions:
- Work some evenings and weekends
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
- Exposure to indoor and outdoor work environments
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to be effective in an environment with varying levels of noise throughout the day
- Ability to maintain both visual and auditory supervision of youth members
