Academic Success Tutor
Job Summary: We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Academic Success Tutor to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for conducting assessments in mathematics and literacy, providing one-on-one or small group tutoring sessions, assisting with homework, and supervising volunteers interested in supporting tutoring activities. This role requires a strong understanding of educational principles, excellent communication skills, and the ability to foster a positive learning environment.
Schedule: Monday through Thursday, 14 hours per week.
Must have flexible schedule to align with after-school and summer program hours.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Assessment & Evaluation:
- Conduct assessments to determine students' proficiency levels in mathematics and literacy.
- Analyze assessment results to identify areas of strength and areas needing improvement.
- Develop personalized learning plans based on assessment outcomes to address individual student needs.
2. Tutoring & Instruction:
- Provide one-on-one or small group tutoring sessions to students in mathematics and literacy.
- Create engaging and interactive learning activities to reinforce concepts and improve skills.
- Monitor student progress and adjust teaching strategies as necessary to ensure understanding and mastery of content.
3. Homework Assistance:
- Assist students with completing homework assignments, projects, and other academic tasks.
- Offer guidance and support to help students develop effective study habits and organizational skills.
- Clarify concepts and provide additional explanations to enhance understanding of homework material.
4. Volunteer Supervision:
- Supervise volunteers interested in assisting with tutoring activities.
- Assign tasks and responsibilities to volunteers based on their skills and interests.
- Provide ongoing support, feedback, and guidance to volunteers to ensure effective tutoring support.
5. Progress Monitoring and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of student assessments, tutoring sessions, and volunteer activities.
- Track student progress and performance over time, documenting achievements and areas for improvement.
- Prepare regular reports and updates for program administrators and stakeholders.
6. Additional Responsibilities
- May participate in special programs and/or events outside of scheduled work shift.
- May assist in other educational program areas if needed or if not tutoring is scheduled.
- General maintenance and cleaning of the building.
- Report any concerns/issues/potential health risks or hazards pertaining to the youth we serve concerning any of the following: building, staff, programs, etc.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Mathematics, Literacy, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
- Previous experience working as a tutor or educator, preferably in a school or educational setting.
- Strong knowledge of mathematics and literacy concepts and instructional strategies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with students, volunteers, and parents.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping children learn and succeed academically.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
- Experience in volunteer management or supervision is desirable.
