JOB SUMMARY
Boys & Girls Clubs is seeking a dynamic candidate to work in Resource and Youth Development as the Volunteer Coordinator. The Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator will oversee program volunteers, ensuring a positive environment that promotes and enhances the development of boys & girls by instilling a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging, and influence. He / she will be responsible for outreach initiatives, with primary concern for volunteer recruitment, engagement, management and retention. Additional duties include the management of BGCGH scholarship programs.
JOB DESCRIPTION
- Volunteer Coordination: Manage volunteer program, with systems and protocols for volunteer recruitment, training and retention; Serve as volunteer supervisor, providing feedback and guidance when needed; coordinate volunteer recognition efforts. Identify needs of volunteers/mentors and actively recruit to meet the needs of the club sites.
- Community Outreach: Act as a liaison with all appropriate parties, internal and/or external to CBGC; Attend various community events for the purpose of promoting CBGC; develop a system for alumni engagement, including but not limited to recruitment, managing contact database, coordinating events, developing newsletters and other communication material.
- Program Implementation: May be required to assist with some programming that relates to volunteerism, character, leadership and service. Must meet all CYD grant requirements in addition to recruiting and training of volunteers and mentors, along with placing them to assigned club sites.
- Prepare Youth for Success: Use the Formula for Impact as a guide to create activities and programs that appeal to youth, engage them in planning and gear them towards future success. Create an environment that highlights the achievement of youth. May be required to assist with day-to-day programs activities in accordance with established standards and goals.
- Safety and Security: Ensure volunteers are aware of all safety and security policies and procedures; Ensure program areas are safe that the Club equipment is maintained in good working condition; ensure all Violence Prevention policies are enforced at all times.
- BGCGH Scholarships Program: Implement and promote BGCGH annual scholarships. Encourage and recruit volunteers and mentors within the program. Coordinate with local schools to promote all BGCGH scholarships and requirements and coordinate application renewals for the program. Organize and maintain scholarship files and all documentation. Work with COO in selection process and to ensure funding of scholarships are completed with the college in a timely fashion.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university, or a combination of education and experience.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of principles relates to development of youth, group leadership skills, an understanding of group dynamics, outreach, and relationship management
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with all types of people.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Club staff, Board members, volunteers, community groups, and other related agencies.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
- Ability to sit/stand for extended periods of time
- Exposure to outdoor weather conditions
- Exposure to loud/excessive noise
- Bi-lingual is preferred
