It connects students, clinicians, and institutions through one centralized system, automating clinical placements, onboarding, compliance, scheduling, documentation, credential tracking, and more. At its core, Externi uses proprietary SmartMatch AI technology to align healthcare professionals with roles that suit their skillset, goals, and institutional needs—fostering better externship experiences, stronger talent pipelines, and improved patient outcomes. With a small team based in New York, the platform aims to simplify compliance and staffing challenges across the entire healthcare ecosystem.

Role Description:

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Product Manager to lead the development of SaaS and AI-driven products within the healthcare and education sectors. This role is ideal for an individual contributor who thrives in startup environments and has experience taking products from 0 to 1. The Product Owner will report directly to the CEO and work in a hybrid arrangement with the New York City-based team. A strong customer discovery mindset and cultural fit are key to success in this mission-driven company focused on solving critical problems in allied health staffing.

Responsibilities:

• Lead product development from MVP to scale, focusing on delivering real customer value.
• Prioritize and manage the product roadmap using agile methodologies and sprint planning.
• Design and execute customer discovery activities, including interviews, surveys, and feedback analysis.
• Collaborate directly with customers to identify pain points and iterate product features based on real-world needs.
• Align product development with legal, compliance, and business model requirements.
• Work cross-functionally to support go-to-market strategy, ensuring product-market fit.
• Integrate with the startup team culture, contributing positively to team dynamics and company mission.
• Communicate effectively with stakeholders including executives, engineers, and external partners.
  
  

Requirements:

• 5 years of product ownership or management experience in startups, ideally in SaaS and AI.
• Demonstrated experience bringing a product from 0 to 1 with direct customer collaboration.
• Expertise in customer discovery methodologies (surveys, interviews, MVP testing).
• Strong understanding of business models, legal/compliance concerns, and GTM strategy.
• Based in the NYC area, with availability to work on-site in a hybrid arrangement.
• Immediate availability (within 30 days).
• Passionate about solving meaningful problems in healthcare and education.
• Strong team fit; able to integrate well with a small, fast-moving team.
• Willingness to work for a mission-driven startup with competitive base salary ($135K–$150K) and equity.
