What are the responsibilities and job description for the Critter Camp Teacher position at Brandywine Valley SPCA?

Brandywine Valley SPCA is seeking enthusiastic and attentive Critter Camp teacher for our annual summer Critter Camp. The hired teacher will be responsible for co-creating and
implementing an appropriate curriculum that will effectively engage kids
aged 7-12 about animals. Under the direction of the Director of Community Engagement, the Critter Camp Teacher will be responsible for assisting with the development and implementation of program activities.

Critter Camp will have one-week sessions, with the sessions running Monday-Friday, 9AM-3PM (8:30AM camper drop-off) each weekday and offer aftercare from 3PM to 5PM.

Please note that this is a paid position. Applicants accepted for a portion, or all weeks.

Ideal Candidates Possess:

- Ability to lead, plan, organize, and implement program activities

- Ability to work as a member of a team and the ability to accomplish tasks with little direct supervision

- Upbeat, engaging personality

- Strong communication and problem-solving skills

- Experience working with children (ideally in a school, summer camp, or youth programming)

- Passionate about animals and animal welfare

- Must have the physical ability to lead and participate in camp activities, including handling animals, helping with crafts, standing for long periods, moving, and/or enduring outdoor weather

- CPR / First Aid Certification preferred

Requirements: Qualified applicants are 18 years or older. Offer contingent on passing of background checks and child clearances. Candidates must attend physical training session and tour at shelter prior to start date.

Principle Responsibilities:

- Lead and supervise activities of children including but not limited to: crafts, games, outside activities, learning experiences, and animal interactions

- Work with Community Engagement team to plan and implement a fun and educational camp program that focuses on teaching about proper care of and compassion for animals

- Provide an enjoyable experience for each camper

- Communicate with parents/guardians regarding day to day and any concerns

- Assist in maintaining and cleaning of assigned camp areas

- Report all program and equipment needs, changes, and concerns to Community Engagement team

- Report to the Community Engagement Coordinator and Director of Community Engagement any difficult or unusual situations

Critter Camp will be held on the following weeks at our West Chester Campus:

Monday July 15– Friday July 19

Monday July 22 – Friday July 26

Monday July 29– Friday August 1
