Digital Strategist

The Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law is a nonpartisan law and policy institute that seeks to improve the systems of democracy and justice in the United States. We work to hold our political institutions and laws accountable to the twin American ideals of democracy and equal justice for all. The Brennan Center’s work ranges from voting rights to census protection, from ending mass incarceration to preserving constitutional protections in the fight against terrorism. And we fight for them—in the courts, in Congress and the states, and the court of public opinion.

Position Overview

The Digital Strategist reports to the Digital Director and supports the Senior Digital Campaign Strategist and Senior Social Media Strategist. The Digital Strategist produces and publishes digital media content for the Brennan Center for Justice’s social media channels, campaigns, and assists with content and publishing for emails and the website. S/he is responsible for content publishing and scheduling, designing content and advertising testing methodologies, interpreting results, and creating and executing strategy to increase engagement and reach across all of Brennan Center for Justice’s digital channels. The Digital Strategist will possess experience with professional social media account management, digital advertising, HTML and CSS, and basic graphic design.

Role & Responsibilities

• Provide ongoing support to a multidisciplinary team that manages online advocacy, social media, the website, digital advertising, the national email program, online campaigning, and online fundraising.
• Collaborate with Communications and program staff to identify high-impact opportunities to increase the visibility of our programmatic work and to generate web traffic, email list growth, social media followership growth, and brand visibility.
• Test and establish digital content strategies that further the Brennan Center’s digital footprint and maximize engagement and conversion.
• Schedule and post content to Brennan Center for Justice’s social media channels; ideate new social media content opportunities.
• Respond to and handle content publishing requests across platforms.
• Collect social media, digital campaign and advocacy metrics, and help produce regular metrics reports.
• Assist with Brennan Center’s paid content strategy to advance the Brennan Center’s brand affinity and audience engagement efforts.  
• Collaborate with Communication staff to plan digital campaigns from production to posting. 
• Interpret audience and engagement data to adjust digital campaign strategies.
• Design A/B tests and interpret social media metrics and research to make design and content recommendations for organic and paid content placements. 
• Assist with weekend web and social media publishing as part of a rotating coverage schedule.
• Assist with special projects as needed.
• Individual contributor that works under limited supervision. 
   

Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience, and a minimum of 5 years related experience.

• Professional experience managing social media channels and designing/overseeing online campaigns.
• Intermediate knowledge of HTML and CSS; Drupal experience a plus.
• Ability to multitask, perform well under pressure, and meet tight deadlines.
• Excellent, error-free writing and editing skills.
• Basic experience with Photoshop preferred.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
