Brethren Village Retirement Community, in Lititz, PA, is hiring full-time and part-time Line Chefs. Brethren Village offers a comprehensive benefits plan; paid time-off; no late night work hours; and every other weekend off.
Successful applicants will have at least 1 year of related professional experience as a Chef or Cook in a restaurant, hotel, healthcare facility, college, or similar setting, or successful completion of formal training through a culinary program.
Our Chefs have the opportunity to work in our newly-renovated, full service restaurant open to the public, a bistro, and in our healthcare facility kitchen, under the guidance of an Executive Chef. Our Chefs also assist with large catered events and fine-dining functions. The Line Chef will have the opportunity to propose new menu items, and create a variety of dishes using various techniques.
Work Schedule:
- Full-time, benefits-eligible, 40 hours per week: Work days and hours will vary a bit from week to week. Typical hours are 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. and 9:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Work days will include every other Saturday and Sunday and holiday (Chefs receive an extra $1.00 per hour for weekend work.)
- Part-time: Applicants who prefer a part-time work schedule (approximately 24 hours per week) may also be considered. Schedules include every other Saturday, Sunday, and holiday.
Core Requirements:
- a high school diploma or G.E.D.

Additional Requirements for This Position:
- at least 1 year of professional experience as a Chef or Cook in a restaurant, cafe, healthcare facility, college, or similar setting, OR successful completion of formal training through a culinary program
- knowledge and experience with various food preparation techniques, tools, and equipment
- the ability to read and carefully follow recipes and food preparation schedules; for our supportive living Residents, the ability to carefully follow prescribed recipes and diets
- knowledge of safe food handling regulations - a food safety / "ServSafe" certificate preferred; ability and willingness to consistently adhere to all Brethren Village protocols and sound food-safety practices
- ability to remain calm and work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- the ability to stand for an entire work day; to walk frequently; and to lift and carry 25 lbs. on a routine basis
- ability and willingness to work every other Saturday, Sunday, and holiday
