Performs work in several trades including general construction, maintenance, or repairs in a manner consistent with accepted practices. Under the direction of the Facilities Director. The class works within a general outline of work to be performed. Requires minimal supervision.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
The tasks below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary.May perform all levels of: Minor plumbing repair, replacement, and new work to include fixtures, fittings, lines, etc.Minor carpentry repair, replacement, and new work to include framing, doors, windows, etc.May perform minor electrical repair, replacement, and new work to include lighting, switches, receptacles, etc.May perform minor masonry repair, replacement, and new work to include sidewalks, driveways, drainage structures, etc.May perform welding and small engine repair.May perform all levels of painting applications, preparation of surfaces, scaffolding, etc.May perform minor preventive maintenance to include air conditioning equipment.,May oversee inmate crews in assignments of basic construction. Operates equipment safely. Uses hand tools and operates motorized tools. Loads and unloads equipment and materials. Sets up safe work zones and ensures safety precautions on and around the work sites. Provides regular progress reports to Director. Responds to emergency situations. Performs other duties as assigned.Regular, dependable and punctual attendance is an essential function of this job.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Work is primarily completed during normal business hours (Monday through Friday 8am - 5pm); however, schedule flexibility is required to effectively perform the requirements of the position. May be required to work weekends, evenings and holidays. In the event of an emergency, natural or manmade disaster the employee will be expected to work.During an emergency, the Sheriff will determine who is considered an emergency responder and whose work is necessary to maintain the operation of law enforcement and correctional facilities.
