Summary
The Orchestra Personnel Manager reports to the Director of Artistic Planning & Educational Programs and Artistic Administrator and will work closely with the Instruction & Performance Department, acting as the primary liaison between the Orchestra Musicians, Conductors, and Administrative Staff. This position is responsible for the effective and efficient management and administration of personnel activities of all Brevard Music Center ensembles.
The Orchestra Personnel Manager is a seasonal position with hours and days of work that may vary widely depending on the time needed to fulfill the responsibilities. This will include nights and weekends coinciding with the services of the orchestra.
Duties
- Oversee all personnel related activities at rehearsals and performances for the Brevard Music Center Orchestra (Flagship Orchestra), Brevard Sinfonia (College Division Orchestra), Chamber Orchestra, and Opera Orchestra, including: creation and maintenance of weekly seating assignments, documenting attendance, serving as the time keeper, and addressing with discretion any personnel issues that may arise.
- Make daily announcements before rehearsals and during break, including upcoming special events, rehearsal changes, or other pertinent information.
- Obtain the rehearsal order from the conductor at the end of each rehearsal and distribute to musicians via bulletin boards, email blasts, and other institutional communication platforms.
- Perform other related duties as assigned or as the situation dictates.
- Liaise with the Orchestra Operations Manager regarding any musicians’ special needs or requests.
- Liaise with the Artist Liaisons regarding any conductor and guest artist needs and requests.
- In conjunction with the Director of Artistic Planning & Educational Programs, manage the Assistant Orchestra Personnel Manager (High School Ensembles) and interact on a daily basis, providing training in all areas of responsibility pertaining to the orchestra.
- Attend meetings, including staff, production, and any other meetings involving musicians.
- Assume other projects and duties that may be assigned by the Director of Artistic Planning & Educational Programs or Artistic Administrator.
Qualifications
- 1-3 year minimum experience in orchestra personnel management.
- Outstanding communications skills with the ability to balance institutional and individual considerations while committing to artistic excellence.
- Experience with stage protocol in an orchestral environment.
- Should be able to collaborate with various personalities in a calm and compassionate manner with a positive attitude and sense of humor, including under pressure.
- Extensive knowledge of orchestral repertoire, instrumentation, and ability to read music.
- Preference given to candidates who have spent time in an orchestra, whether as a musician or member of the administrative team.
- Computer skills including Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
Requirements

- A college degree in music or extensive knowledge of classical music.
Compensation: includes a season stipend paid bi-weekly, full board, and on-campus housing.
