Postdoctoral Fellowship in Bioinformatics/ RNA-sequencing of Chronic Lung Diseases

Brigham and Women’s Hospital

The Channing Division of Network Medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH) is looking for an exceptional postdoctoral fellow to advance research in respiratory disease, with a focus on bioinformatics and integrative genomics, including RNA-sequencing and single cell sequencing in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), under the supervision of the PI, Dr. Craig Hersh.

The fellow will work on one of several NIH-funded projects including analysis of RNA-seq in more than 4000 blood samples and 1500 lung tissue samples, with corresponding clinical, imaging, and whole genome sequencing data. In addition, these projects will be generating new RNA-seq. single cell sequencing, and spatial transcriptomics data in human samples and animal models. Fellows will work with an interdisciplinary team, consisting of geneticists and genetic epidemiologists, biostatisticians, computational biologists, and translational scientists and clinicians.

Qualified candidates should have:

  • Ph.D. in bioinformatics, statistics, genetics, computational biology, or a related quantitative field
  • Strong programming skills in R / Bioconductor.
  • Experience in analysis of RNA-sequencing, genetic or other -omic data is mandatory.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and documentation skills.
  • Ability to adhere to reproducible research standards.
  • Ability to work well in teams and interact with all levels of staff.

Successful candidates will have the drive to pursue new scientific questions and be readily able to learn new skills and analytic techniques. Salary is commensurate with experience. The position is available immediately.
