Energy Modeler
Reports to: Manager of Energy Modeling
Location: New York, NY or Remote
Bright Power is seeking a highly organized, dedicated, and detail-oriented Energy Modeler to join our New Construction team. Energy Modelers work closely with Project Managers on the New Construction team to perform energy modeling and appropriate simulations of ground-up new construction and building rehabilitation projects. Through building simulation, the Energy Modeler leads the charge in assessing opportunities to optimize design, as well as identify any major areas of potential excessive energy usage. Energy Modelers are a very integral component of our team and the services we deliver to clients, and we value their input greatly.

Primary tasks
- Conduct energy modeling using EQuest or Trane Trace 3D using ASHRAE Appendix G, Appendix CA (for NYCECC Code Compliance), LEED and/or Energy Cost Budget Method simulation guidelines
- Collect modeling parameters and build geometry using AutoCAD files and architectural/MEP drawings
- Convey results of energy models in a straightforward yet detailed manner
- Recommend energy efficiency and resiliency strategies supported by building science and modeling results
- Track the progress of multiple energy models/projects simultaneously and work with project managers internally to keep projects on track
- Perform architectural and engineering design reviews and communicate feedback to design teams
- Maintain working knowledge of newest technologies and trends in the building systems and energy efficiency industry
- Stay up to date on iterative changes related to ASHRAE Standards, Certification Programs, and NYC/NYS Energy Code.
- Assess ability to optimize modeling protocols, develop internal processes and streamline modeling efficiency
- Complete documentation associated with program compliance
Ideal candidate will have
- Knowledge of NYSERDA New Construction Program, Energy Star Multifamily New Construction Program, Enterprise Green Communities, and LEED certification programs as it relates to minimum performance standards and modeling protocols
- Work experience in engineering or architecture, particularly with an emphasis on energy efficiency and sustainability
- Ability to read and interpret architectural/mechanical/electrical/plumbing plans and construction documents
- Ability to evaluate and perform engineering calculations related to HVAC systems
- An understanding of building science and building envelope design
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to problem solve independently and creatively
- Strong adaptable communication
- Strong writing abilities
All levels of experience will be evaluated; preference will be given to advanced proficiency
