Job Description

The Compliance Monitor Assistant reports to the Compliance Monitor Manager and is responsible for assisting with compliance monitoring efforts in a clinical laboratory. The Compliance Monitor Assistant will ensure that requisition forms containing patient demographic and test information have accurate data listed and adhere to all applicable regulations and standards. The Compliance Monitor Assistant is also responsible for the proper handling and processing of incoming laboratory specimens for analyzing in the lab in Ontario, CA.

Position Type: Full-Time

Shift: M, TH, F: 3pm- 11:30pm & Sa- Su: 1pm - 9:30pm

Hourly Rate: $21.00 per hour

Location: Ontario, CA

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • None

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists the Compliance Monitor and Laboratory Accessioning Manager with reviewing and auditing requisition forms submitted to the laboratory.
  • Confirms that test information, including test names, codes, and other relevant details is correct on the requisition form and in the LIMSabc system.
  • Verifies patient demographic information matches the test requisition form submitted.
  • Maintains detailed records of audit findings and documents any discrepancies or non-compliance issues discovered during the auditing process.
  • Generates regular reports summarizing audit results when necessary.
  • Collaborates with the Compliance Monitor, Laboratory Accessioning Manager, and laboratory staff to address compliance concerns.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of training programs for laboratory personnel to enhance compliance awareness and skills.
  • Identifies opportunities for process improvements to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of auditing.
  • Ensures the strict confidentiality of patient information and compliance with HIPAA and other relevant privacy laws.
  • Verifies all specimens that come in are labeled appropriately and that they match the labels on the requisition to ensure that there are no issues with patient identification and reporting.
  • Introduces and prepares biological specimens to the laboratory to ensure accurate processing.
  • Opens specimens and pour off into secondary containers to prepare for analysis and testing.
  • Data entry of patient information into the computer system for tracking purposes.
  • Meets key production metrics and quality measures to ensure timely and accurate results.
  • Unpacks and routes specimens to their respective staging areas.
  • Packs and ships specimens to proper testing facilities when required.
  • Properly prepares and stores excess specimen samples.
  • Resolves and documents any problem specimens.
  • Handles and disposes of medical and chemical waste.
  • Complies with applicable environmental health and safety policies and procedures.

Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Previous experience in compliance monitoring or quality assurance with a clinical laboratory, preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Record maintenance skills.
  • Strong understanding of clinical laboratory operations and requisition form requirements.
  • Comfortable handling human biological specimens including blood, urine and tissue samples.
  • Strong eye hand coordination in order to accurately identify specimens by touch and sight.
  • High level of attention to detail with the ability to problem solve.
  • Strong communication skills; both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.
  • Ability to prepare and print routine correspondence, labels, and/or other basic written material.
  • Proficient in word processing and/or data entry skills.
  • Skill in the use of operating basic office equipment.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting and standing at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds, work in protective equipment, and sit/stand for long periods of time.
