BRISTOL COUNTY AGRICULTURAL HIGH SCHOOL JOB DESCRIPTION TECHNOLOGY DIRECTOR REPORTS TO: Superintendent | Director SUMMARY: The Technology Director is responsible for directing and overseeing the School District’s Technology Services, including the planning, purchasing, maintenance, and repair of phone systems, surveillance video systems, computer networks, and related hardware and software. This role involves strategic planning and leadership, setting annual goals, and developing the District’s Technology Plan in collaboration with the Assistant Superintendent/Principal. The Technology Director ensures efficient system management and security, including maintaining technology infrastructure, implementing security measures, and managing the District’s OneCard Service. Additionally, the role involves managing the Technology Help-Desk, supervising the 1:1 student device initiative, and overseeing all district technology systems. Financial responsibilities include budget management, contract administration, and overseeing technology acquisitions and the E-Rate Program. The Director also serves as a Professional Development Advocate, providing training for staff and ensuring the effective use of technology across the district. Availability during off-school hours for emergencies and additional assigned technology services are also required. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Strategic Planning and Leadership Set annual goals, operational objectives, priorities, strategic approach, and budget requirements in accordance with the District’s Technology Plan. In partnership with the Assistant Superintendent/Principal, co-chair the Technology Planning Committee and be responsible for writing and updating the District’s Technology Plan and complying with state and federal requirements related to such plans. Contribute to the infusion of educational technology into classrooms, offices, and the District administration building by providing highly motivated, full-time, professional leadership in all areas of technology planning and technology resource management. Establish and communicate clear timelines, goals, and success metrics for all district technology initiatives. Represent the District at area and state technology organization meetings. System Management and Security Maintain phone, video surveillance, and computer network systems directly or indirectly by assigning specialists or contracting with technology services companies, within budget parameters. Provide software, including system software, upgrades to ensure efficient use of technology within the District Establish firewalls, virus protection, and other measures to secure systems and individual computers from inappropriate access or use. Develop and administer a comprehensive security program to protect information integrity and ensure compliance with federal privacy requirements, including CIPA, COPPA, and FERPA. Serve as the District Privacy Officer and Information Security Officer. Assist administration, law enforcement, or district legal counsel in investigating allegations of student or staff computer misuse. Manage the District OneCard Service, including the management and oversight of the access control system, dining system, and lost card replacement program. Technology Support and Help Desk Manage and monitor the Technology Help-Desk by utilizing the campus inventory and work order management system to track, communicate, and resolve issues promptly. Establish a system for handling computer problems, including defining the problem, prioritizing work, and completing necessary repairs/replacements in a timely fashion. Maintain competence with the campus-preferred work order and maintenance system, Hero. Oversee and manage the deployment, security, and inventory of the 1:1 student device initiative. Supervise and provide guidance to student workers or part-time technicians as required. System Oversight and Maintenance Supervise the support, maintenance, integrity, and implementation of all district systems, including email, internet, telecommunication, finance, personnel, special education, and student information software systems. Maintain oversight of the District systems, including renewals, training, and upgrades. Establish and track support contracts, licenses, maintenance agreements, and upgrades for the District’s technology. Provide oversight for the school website, including posting protocol and schedules, site redesign, and periodic updates. Financial and Contract Management In collaboration with the Assistant Superintendent/Principal and Business Manager, develop, manage, and monitor the department’s budgets for technology and large capital expenses. Define technology contract specifications, terms, and conditions, including performance and reliability standards, and administer contracts to ensure compliance. Oversee the cost-effective acquisition of devices and software, and manage vendors to ensure IT operations are within established budget constraints. Oversee the District’s participation in the E-Rate Program. Provide oversight of the Technology Fee and District 1:1 technology policy, including collaborating with the Business Office to manage and oversee the collection of student technology fees. Professional Development and Training Serve as a Professional Development Advocate for teaching and support staff. Work with the Assistant Superintendent/Principal in identifying, planning, and administering all technology professional development needs. Additional Responsibilities Must be available during off-school hours and report to campus as needed for emergencies. Assist and supervise the technology in school ceremonies and events. Perform additional/other technology services as assigned by the Superintendent/Director or designee. EVALUATION: The Technology Director is evaluated annually by the Superintendent/Director. The evaluation is to be based upon fulfillment of duties and responsibilities listed in this job description as determined by observation, review of records and reports, and administrative judgment of the effectiveness and quality of technology services. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree and three to five (3 – 5) years of experience are required. In lieu of a degree, 5 – 7 years of relevant experience in management of a technology operation. DESE licensure as an Instructional Technology Specialist 3-5 years experience in a district instructional technology leadership position 3-5 years experience as a teacher Extensive knowledge of technology uses in educational/instructional settings, technology hardware and network operations, and student database management systems Demonstrated success working within a diverse workforce with multiple constituencies The Superintendent of Schools may consider alternate relevant experience Demonstrated effective management skills – leadership, planning, budgeting, evaluation and effective communication skills. Demonstrated effective staff and public relations skills. Demonstrated knowledge of computer and telecommunication capabilities, operations, networking principles, protocols, and infrastructure. Demonstrated proficient in the use of software packages. Physically able to lift 50 pounds and perform moderately strenuous tasks (e.g. carrying computer equipment up and down stairs) and to climb ladders to access equipment and wiring. Demonstrated ability to use hand tools and diagnostic equipment. Skill in analyzing and improving operational effectiveness as well as defining program objectives and establishing Technology standards, policies, and budgets; Possess strong skills in oral and written communication, organization, problem-solving, and a commitment to customer service. WORK YEAR: Full Year COMPENSATION: Salary and other benefits will be established by contractual agreement between the Superintendent and the successful candidate.
