Overview

A discreet LA-based family seeks a highly trained and very experienced modern Butler to oversee the daily operations of a home while delivering hands-on, elevated personal service.  This is a full-time role with a varying schedule, depending on the family's requirements.  The principals value long-term stability and seek candidates that can bring a combination of British-style formality, structure, and decorum, alongside a more Mediterranean-style warmth and a passion for hospitality.  The principals are moving to their new home mid-2025 and their butler will be responsible for laying the foundation for an orderly, efficient, and elegant household.

Responsibilities

• Direct, manage, and oversee all household operations, establishing a calm, efficient, and discreet atmosphere.  
• Maintain the home's organisational systems (tracking inventory, setting schedules, allocating responsibilities, staff training)
• Design and implement job descriptions, checklists, and operational standards for all household roles, ensuring smooth daily operations
• Recruit, hire, train, and supervise household staff, including gardeners, security, pool maintenance, caterers, and other service providers
• Establish a chain of command, maintain control over staff concerns, and ensure that the household staff functions cohesively with minimal direct contact with the family
• Serve as the primary contact for all staff questions, issues, and personal matters, handling them with discretion and respect for privacy
• Providing daily hands-on service, including cooking, silver tray personal service
• Oversee and execute household entertaining, managing dining presentation, table setting, and bar preparation with elegance and refinement.
• Prepare and serve Mediterranean/Italian-inspired, seasonal cuisine sourced from local Farmer’s Markets and the Kitchen Garden.
• Maintain the family’s art collection, fine furniture, wardrobes, wine collection, and vehicles.
• Personal assistance, to include arranging travel accommodation, reservations, bookings, 
• Wardrobe organisation and maintenance
• Occasional chauffeur responsibilities
• The family are moving to their new home mid-2025, so he butler will assist with the transition from construction and interior design teams, will manage the move-in, and will be responsible for identifying and training new staff and vendors

Qualifications

• Culinary training or extensive experience with Mediterranean cuisine
• Warm, professional, and discreet personality with a positive demeanor
• High emotional intelligence, strong leadership skills, and the ability to maintain a peaceful, dignified atmosphere
• Security service skills, or military training

Requirements

• Fluency in English and Spanish
• Comfortable around animals (and dogs in particular)
• Minimum of 10 years experience in a top-tier household
• Proficiency in household management software and technology
• Sterling references
• Formal butler training from a recognised institution

Salary and Benefits

• The family are open to covering relocation costs for candidates based in the UK or EU.  They will also sponsor visas.
