POSITION SUMMARY:
The Lead Dental Assistant is a full-time, direct care working position, with day-to-day supervisory duties over other dental assistants. The Lead Dental Assistant must be flexible with his/her time, work well with other staff members, and be able to multitask. The Lead Dental Assistant must exemplify professional behavior, which is expected of all dental assistants. In addition to the dental assistant job description, the Lead Dental Assistant is responsible for the following tasks:
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works with the dental staff and assures teamwork.
- Is reliable and dependable as demonstrated by good punctuality and attendance.
- Positive attitude and strong customer service skills.
- Coordinates and directs the dental assistants in all patient activity.
- Assures that the dental assistant team maintains clean and well stocked rooms, including the vacuum system.
- Assures that the sterilizers are maintained, functioning, and well kept
- Coordinates the dental assistant functions and time in the sterilization areas.
- Works out breaks or coverage with other dental assistants.
- Oversees and maintains optimal patient flow.
- Assures optimal job performance of dental assistants.
- Coordinates translator needs and other patient-related needs.
MINIMUM SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:
High school diploma plus training that leads to a basic knowledge of dental terminology and dental service procedures. 2-3 years’ experience in a general office. Required to have Massachusetts State dental assistant license, dental certification from accredited school, radiology certification and CPR.
WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work within a busy community health center in a high crime, urban neighborhood. Interruptions are present and can be disruptive to work flow. Stress is present due to high volume of work, diversified nature of activities and frequent crises and deadlines. Perform other employee’s duties to cover staff absences. Works overtime as needed for emergencies or to meet project deadlines flexibility, evenings and week end required. The individual must be in good health of mind and body with the physical dexterity and vision suitable to accomplish the job duties outlined above. Knowledge of proper patient transfer assistance is also required and the ability to lift as much as 25 pounds may be necessary. As part of the direct responsibilities, the employee will have direct exposure to toxic chemicals and infectious materials.
