Your Role in Our Garden Oasis:
Under the guidance of our Horticulturists and the Manager of Horticulture, your responsibilities will include:
- Garden Care: Tending to designated gardens, ensuring they thrive by planting and maintaining various ornamentals, perennials, annuals, and bulbs.
- Attention to Detail: Performing tasks like weeding, trimming, deadheading, digging, propagating, transplanting, and pruning when necessary.
- Plant Health: Applying fertilizers and practicing Integrated Pest Management (IPM) as directed.
- Equipment Operation: Operating and maintaining power and hand-held landscaping equipment responsibly.
- Continuous Learning: Staying informed about the latest landscaping and gardening techniques, fertilizers, pesticides, and plant identification.
- Supporting Records: Assisting the Horticulturists in maintaining accurate plant records.
- Garden Development: Collaborating on garden development, planning, and design.
- Special Events: Participating in special events and seasonal activities as needed, including weekend duty rotations.
- Institutional Compliance: Adhering to our institution's procedures and policies.
- Adaptable Role: Taking on other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications We Seek
To excel in this role, you should possess:
- Basic Horticultural Knowledge: Understanding of gardening and landscaping practices and the responsible operation of power equipment and machinery.
- Effective Communication: The ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally, and collaborate with fellow team members.
- Educational Foundation: A high school diploma or GED.
- Preferred Experience: Experience in gardening or landscaping is a plus.
- Physical Stamina: Physical capability to handle garden maintenance, including lifting a minimum of 60 lbs, bending, kneeling, and maintaining focus.
- Weather Resilience: Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Valid SC Driver's License: A valid South Carolina driver's license is required.
