Position Overview
BSR seeks an Associate to join its Partnership Development team to support the development of concepts and proposals and to contribute to its donor business intelligence process. BSR implements a wide variety of programs with support from foundations and bilateral/multilateral donors to further our mission of creating a just and sustainable world. Our grant funded projects are implemented globally and seek to harness the organizational, operational, technological, and financial acumen of the private sector, working with partners from civil society, the public sector, and others in the pursuit of more environmentally and socially sustainable development.
We seek to create projects that contribute to achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through business action.
The Associate will play a key role in gathering and analyzing business intelligence to support donor engagement and the design and development of grant-funded projects, and contribute to grant proposals.
The Associate Director can be located in the US or Europe, with a preference for being located in a city where BSR has an office and will report into the Manager, Partnership Development based out of the New York office.
The responsibilities of the Associate, Partnership Development include:
Business Intelligence:
- Develop and maintain BSR’s business intelligence and customer relationship management systems related to foundations, public sector donors, and other current and potential funders. This involves collecting data and feedback from users to constantly improve the business intelligence system and identifying and monitoring emerging donor trends and grant opportunities relevant to BSR’s areas of expertise.
- Contribute to regular business intelligence reports for the organization which summarizes the findings from this review.
- Complete internal research projects such as mapping target donors for specific concepts, developing brief reports on issues and trends, and creating outreach plans.
Proposal Management and Preparation:
- Manage the grant proposal preparation process, assemble the proposal team, and gather the necessary inputs from various departments (finance, operations and compliance, human resources, subject matter experts etc.) to support the development of compelling proposals that align with the priorities of BSR and donors.
Project Design
- Work alongside team leadership to contribute to ideation exercises with BSR’s area of expertise teams. This will involve conducting background research on emerging issues to support the development of strategic solutions to solve sustainable development challenges.
Operational Improvements:
- Support the development of tools and templates and suggest and implement process improvements in the Partnership Development team.
Project Work:
- About 10% - 20% of the Associate’s time will be spent implementing projects along one of BSR’s Areas of Expertise based on organizational need, and the individual’s interests and capabilities.
Compensation
At BSR we have implemented a transparent total compensation framework with an emphasis on internal equity. In order to maintain our equity our hiring rates for this position are listed below. Location adjustment will apply if successful candidate resides in New York, San Francisco or Paris.
US: $74,330
Paris: €51,509
Copenhagen: 443,957 kr
London: £38,765
Qualifications
- Prior professional experience working with public and private donors (international organizations, national governments, and private and corporate foundations) is desirable.
- Experience in developing and writing high quality grant proposals, including developing theories of change and logframes, budgets, and work plans for complex, multi-year and global projects is preferred.
- Good understanding of corporate sustainability and the private sector’s role in achieving the SDGs and/ or one of BSR’s Areas of Expertise
- Well-developed interpersonal skills for coordinating with diverse teams, including across diverse geographies.
- Fluent in written and conversational English.
- Excellent writing skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office; experience with Salesforce and Microsoft SharePoint Online a plus.
- Capacity to work and thrive in a growing, fast-paced entrepreneurial organization and collaborative environment.
