About the Senior Associate Government Audit Role
The Senior Associate Government Audit role provides assistance to engagement team members on audit
and other attest engagements. This role also includes accounting assistance to various governmental
organization with a focus on Villages with operating electric utilities.
In this role, you will:
· Provide year-end accounting assistance (balance sheet reconciliation, analysis of income statements, review trial balances etc.)
· Perform hands-on accounting records reconstruction for clients including day to day accounting activities.
· Prepare and record electric utility work orders to continuing property record systems, such as USA Software or other products
· Review overhead rates to ensure clearing accounts are properly clearing out balances
· Prepare and review of purchase power adjustment cost reconciliations, cash reconciliations and fuel adjustment calculations
· Ensure revenue and expenditure transactions are recorded to the correct funds
· Reconciliation of debt transactions, bonds, BANs, leases and other installment purchase debt
· Perform Capital Projects Fund Accounting
· Financial analysis of operating funds
· Preparation of financial statements
· Perform testing procedures
· Prepare electronic workpapers, planning forms and arrangement letters
· Stay current on governmental accounting and auditing guidance by attending regional and statewide association events.
To be successful in this role, you will bring with you:
· Bachelor’s degree or higher in accounting
· 1-2 years of experience in private industry or public accounting
· QuickBooks certified
· Strong computer skills with proficiency in Word, Excel, and Caseware Working Papers
· Understanding of U.S. GAAP basics, governmental accounting is a plus
· Excellent client service skills including the ability to make a connection and provide training
· Ability to communicate with all levels of management, including governance
· Financial Statement preparation experience
· Ability to work both independently and in conjunction with a team
· Exposure to external audit processes
· Ability to meet deadlines
· Experience assisting clients with bookkeeping records
· Ability to collect and interpret data
· Excellent oral and written communication skills in a language our clients understand
· Ability and interest to work a hybrid model which includes travel to client locations
