Description
Bullis School seeks an Upper School Mathematics Teacher to contribute to our vibrant learning community starting in the 2024-2025 academic year. Candidates should be capable of, and interested in, teaching a wide range of students and math courses including on-level, honors, and AP classes from Algebra 1 through AP Statistics and AP Calculus. Responsibilities include teaching five classes, contributing to department initiatives, and advising. Additional opportunities to supervise after-school activities are based on need and interest. This is a 10-month position reporting to the Upper School Math Department Chair.
The Bullis Upper School Math department emphasizes collaboration and curiosity both in the classroom and among colleagues. As members of a supportive and positive department culture, teachers foster a spirit of exploration and growth while utilizing methods designed to help students learn. The department employs the themes of making connections, communication, and dealing with unique problems to drive curricular development and design.
Duties & Qualifications
Essential Functions
- Teach five classes per academic year
- Duties within the community, including student advising or other extracurricular activities
- Develop lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the basic instructional philosophy
- Collaborate with mathematics colleagues to further advance department goals and initiatives
- Participate and collaborate with teachers and other subject-area experts on grade-level and interdisciplinary teams
- Use technology to enhance students’ active, experiential, and hands-on learning
- Create learning environments that encourage risk-taking and deep learning for students with a range of learning abilities using a variety of methods and technology
- Use of reflection and feedback aimed at continued growth in the field of teaching and working with young people
- Remain current in pedagogical practices and field-related trends
- Attend Upper School divisional, mathematics department, grade-level, and interdisciplinary team meetings
- Communicate with parents, school counselors, and administrators on students’ progress, as needed and appropriate
- Design and implement assessments that measure progress toward academic standards and provide timely feedback to students
- Use the student learning management system to provide timely feedback, grades, and assignments to students

Education and Experience
Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics, Education, or related field
Preferred:
- Master’s Degree in Mathematics, Education, or related field
- Minimum of three years teaching experience in secondary education
- Proficiency with Windows or Apple OS, Microsoft Office, cloud computing (Google Docs, etc.), and other productivity and media software
