Railroad & Transit Team

Burns provides design and construction solutions to help maintain, improve, and expand the nation's railroad and transit infrastructure. We have designed the implementation of critical programs across the country, and support the renewed emphasis on a public transit-oriented lifestyle.

Burns is currently seeking a licensed Project Manager to join our Railroad & Transit team in Washington, D.C.

SUMMARY

We are seeking an experienced licensed engineer who can serve as a Project Manager for a transit authority in a staff augmentation role. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing a complex portfolio of transit infrastructure projects, collaborating closely with authority personnel, consultants, and multiple contractors. This individual will ensure strict adherence to project schedules, specifications, safety regulations, and performance commitments.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain full familiarity with project plans, specifications, construction schedules, contractor submittals, the Project Management Plan (PMP), and current safety regulations.
  • Disseminate critical project information to both office and field personnel to ensure authority remains fully informed of progress and responsibilities.
  • Assign and manage technical and administrative personnel as appropriate to support the successful execution of project tasks.
  • Work in close coordination with the authority to lead staff efforts aligned with project budget and schedule constraints.
  • Monitor project performance and ensure that all tasks are executed according to scope, cost, and schedule objectives.
  • Facilitate risk identification and mitigation in coordination with stakeholders

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Registered Professional Engineer in VA, MD, or DC is strongly preferred.
  • A minimum of 15 years of project management and/or construction management experience, with four (4) years of experience in the transit industry.
  • Previous experience working with or for WMATA or similar transit agencies is strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to manage multi-disciplinary teams and contractors on complex infrastructure projects.
  • Strong knowledge of project management principles, PMP, construction methods, and safety standards.
  • PMP certification or equivalent preferred.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Professional Engineering License is required at this level.
