Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Paraprofessional Aide to support teachers and enhance the educational experience of students in a classroom setting. The ideal candidate will work closely with students, particularly those with diverse learning needs, to foster an inclusive and productive learning environment. This role is essential in assisting with lesson planning, classroom management, and behavior management strategies.
Paraprofessionals play a critical role in shaping our students' futures by working closely with teachers to support them in their duties. Works under direct supervision of a teacher to monitor students and perform a variety of clerical and classroom tasks. Paraprofessionals may work in a self-contained/specialized classroom, one-on-one with a student, or in a regular education setting.
Responsibilities
- Assist teachers in implementing lesson plans and curriculum development tailored to meet the needs of all students.
- Distributes and collects materials, sets up classroom for instructional projects and sets up and operates audiovisual equipment
- Support students with disabilities by providing individualized attention and assistance in their daily activities.
- Provides individual or small group tutoring to students, reinforcing learning concepts as directed by the teacher
- Facilitate classroom management by maintaining a positive and structured environment conducive to learning.
- Communicate effectively with students, teachers, and parents regarding student progress and any concerns that may arise.
- Help supervise students during classroom activities, lunch, recess, and other school events.
- Participate in training sessions to enhance skills related to behavior management and effective teaching strategies.
- Assist in the preparation of instructional materials and resources for lessons.
- Performs other classroom or school-wide clerical tasks such as preparing, compiling or making copies of instructional materials and reports, typing and filing classroom or student records, or distributing and inventorying textbooks and other instructional materials as assigned
- Takes attendance and collects forms, proctors exams, and scores objecting tests
- Assists students with personal and hygienic care
- Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students, school staff, and school programs
- Other duties as assigned by the classroom teacher, director of special education or building principal
Experience /Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience working with kids is preferred, but not required
- Patience and ability to work with children, young adults, faculty members and parents
- Experience working with children with disabilities or special needs is a plus.
- Sensitivity to physical and mental disabilities and how they affect the behavior of children
- Team player with a positive attitude
- Willingness to be flexible- assignments may change from day-to-day depending on student needs
- Ability to prioritize, multitask and manage time efficiently
- Caring, compassionate and dedicated to student success
- Act 34, 151 and FBI clearances required upon employment
