MEDICAL RECORDS TECHNICIAN
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
Under general supervision and consistent confidentiality , this position provides a variety of support services that include basic to moderately difficult clerical tasks involving maintenance of administrative , clerical and clinical tasks involving patient medical and/or mental health records in electronic and hardcopy mediums. This classification is characterized by the performance of various front office duties and patient care services such as record keeping that do not require diagnosis, treatment, or tasks that are invasive or require a medical evaluation or assessment by this position.
REPORTS TO: OFFICE MANAGER/BILLING SUPERVISOR
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
1. Greet patients at reception desk , assist in check-in and answer routine questions, scheduling next appt
2. Answer phones, schedule appointments, Insurance checks for eligibility at time of services, courtesy reminder calls of upcoming appointments, registration of new client as well as updating existing clients as needed
3. Data entry, billing of patient services , transcription
4. Verification of authorizations at time of services
5. Upon approval - Medical records request, Subpoenas, and any other documents needing approvals
6. Assemble files and continuous review and maintenance for current status of client
7. Preparation of documents for Psychiatric appointments
8. Monthly reports, and provide information to appropriate person when requested
9. Inventory and ordering of office supplies as needed
10. Performs other related duties as required
MEDICAL RECORDS TECHNICIAN (per training, experience and/or certification) INCLUDES:
· Collect and record patient data – height, weight, temperature, pulse, BP, respiration rate, and basic information about present and previous condition upon psychiatric visits.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Completion of a High School Diploma or equivalent. Ability to type an adjusted minimum of 50 WPM, detail oriented, follow through on assigned tasks, pleasant disposition in dealing with patients, community members and staff. MRT’s – Completion of an approved Medical Assistant certification program such as (CAAHEP), (ACCSC), and possession of a valid certification in CPR and First-Aid for Infants, Children and Adults is required.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS & ACCOUNTABILITY:
Assigned tasks through CEO, Direct Supervisor, and working relationships include Clinician supervisor, clinicians , contracted providers, and other /agency staff as needed. All patient records will be efficiently and professionally managed as well as required work assignments done thoroughly, professionally, and in a timely manner, while maintaining a professional, friendly, courteous, efficient, and caring environment for all.
PRE-EMPLOYMENT:
All employment offers are contingent upon successful completion of both a physical exam that may include a drug/alcohol test and a criminal background investigation that involves fingerprints.
