Summary

The purpose of this position is to learn the skills to become a journeyman lineman. An Apprentice Lineman is responsible for learning to build, maintain and repair overhead and underground power distribution and transmission lines within the scope of his/her training and certification in a safe and efficient manner within accepted operation standards, approved policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • OSHA10 Safety Certification or be able to obtain
  • Possess a valid Class A CDL License or be able to obtain
  • Ability to listen, follow directions and communicate effectively.
  • Interact in a professional manner with customers, co-workers and other trades.
  • Have basic knowledge of current electrical codes. NEC and NESC
  • Knowledge of electrical systems and components
  • Be willing to travel as required
    • This position is located in Pittsburg, KS. We are not offering a relocation package at this time.
  • Apprentice Step progression will be based on minimum 1000 mhrs. increments in each step from Step 1 through step 7 and being able to demonstrate the necessary skills fluently to be promoted to the next step. This will include skills demonstrated on the job performing step level ability, written and verbal skills prior to next level promotion.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate and use apprentice-level knowledge of electrical line work to safely construct and maintain electric transmission and distribution lines. Be able to climb poles of all types and performs jobs required of lineman off the poles, including changing out of arms, transformers, conductors, etc. Must have general and specific knowledge of equipment and be able to operate equipment to construct, maintain and repair electrical systems, both cold and energized (hot) lines. Drives and operates necessary equipment to frame and set poles, lay wire, connect and disconnect services and other duties as assigned. Must be able to understand requirements and use appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment). Must be able to recognize, mitigate and inform/communicate hazardous conditions. Must always maintain safety working conditions.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to:

  • Stand, walk, bend, kneel and sit for long periods of time
  • Lift and move 50 pounds repeatedly
  • Work in extreme weather conditions
