Job Description:
As a Direct Support Professional, you’ll be at the heart of what we do, providing essential support and care to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Your role is crucial in enhancing their quality of life and fostering an environment of respect and dignity. You’ll assist with daily activities, encourage community involvement, and help our clients achieve their personal goals. Key Responsibilities:
- Daily Support: Assist clients with personal hygiene needs, and challenging behaviors as needed.
- Community Engagement: Encourage clients to participate in recreational and social activities, fostering connections within the community.
- Skill Development: Support clients in developing social and life skills to promote independence and self-confidence.
- Safety and Environment: Ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment, and follow health and safety protocols.
- Advocacy: Stand up for the rights and needs of our clients, promoting their independence and self-determination.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with other team members, families, and healthcare professionals to provide the best care possible.
- Training Compliance: Must be able to meet all training requirements and complete renewals as assigned.
- Patience and Understanding: Approach each individual with empathy and respect, recognizing their unique needs and preferences.
- Active Interaction: Engage with clients in fun activities both at our facility and out in the community.
- Support with Social and Life Skills: Assist clients in developing essential social and life skills for greater independence.
- Clean and Welcoming Environment: Help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for our clients.
- Daily Documentation: Complete necessary documentation to track progress and ensure accurate record-keeping.
Work Schedule:
- Full-time: 8:45 AM - 3:15 PM, Monday to Friday.
- Part-time: Choose from Monday, Wednesday, Friday or Tuesday and Thursday.
- Positions start mid-August and will remain open until filled.
- Shifts cannot be split; you must be available to start and end at the posted times. Please do not apply if you cannot meet this requirement.
- Additional shifts available with Community Supports, involving one-on-one interactions with clients in the community or home for personal activities of their choosing.
- Driver positions are available for AM or PM routes to pick up and drop off clients for day services at our facility.
Wages and Benefits:
- DSPs start at $16/hour, with an increase after 60 days.
- Drivers start at $16.50/hour.
- Full-time (32 hrs. a wk.) employees are eligible for health insurance (coverage for employee only).
- Enjoy state and national holidays off, with extended breaks for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (required)
- Must 18 years or older
- Valid driver’s license or State ID
- Must pass state and federal background checks.
- Must pass a drug screen.
- Must be 21 or older to drive.
- Acceptable Driving Record, and current auto insurance if using a personal vehicle for transporting clients.
- Patience, compassion, and a genuine desire to help others.
- Excellent Communication and interpersonal skills: Ability to effectively communicate with clients, families, and team members.
- Calm and Composed: Ability to remain calm and composed in challenging situations.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Experience (Preferred but Not Required): Previous experience working with individuals with disabilities, caregiving or a related field is a plus.
Job Requirements:
- Physical ability to assist clients with mobility, including lifting, standing and transferring and at times, physical endurance.
- Manage multiple tasks and priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Basic written and computer skills for documentation and communication.
- Willingness to participate in ongoing training and professional development.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and respect client privacy.
- CPR and First Aid certification (preferred, but not required).
- Must pass state and federal background checks and a drug screen.
- Adhere to Company Policies: Follow company policies, procedures, and assigned duties.
- Required training: Must be able to meet all training requirements and complete renewals as assigned.
