Benefits Manager
Location: Santa Paula, CA – Remote Optional
Reports to: Head of Total Rewards
The Benefits Manager is responsible for the administration of Calavo Growers medical, dental, vision, prescription, life, disability, and retirement plans. Administration includes not only assisting participants with their claims, but actively monitoring and managing each plan, while offering advice and feedback on potential plan improvements.
Primary Responsibilities
- Oversee all benefit plan administration and open enrollment for US Based Employees
- Process new hires, employee changes, terminations, and benefit administration (including but not limited to: Voluntary benefits, COBRA, 401(k), Health, etc.); research and troubleshoot any/all inquiries.
- Coordinate resolution with insurance carriers, to address any inquiries and requests, on an ongoing basis.
- Manage unemployment insurance claims and perform timely audits.
- Manage employees’ leave in accordance with federal, state, local, and company policies (including but not limited to FMLA, PFL, DBL, ADA). Facilitate return to work and the interactive process.
- Manage and maintain all Company insurance policies.
- Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local laws.
- Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements
- College degree preferred, or at least 6 years of progressive related benefits and human resources experience.
- Multi-state benefits administration experience preferred
- At least 6 years’ experience in Human Resources, with a minimum 4 years’ Benefits experience, preferably supporting a large hourly workforce
- Bilingual fluency in Spanish preferred
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and time sensitive deadlines.
- Computer skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams) and Google Suite
- Ability to anticipate important timing needs that may impact company benefits
- Strong working knowledge of labor & compliance guidelines
- Excellent interpersonal skills, maintains confidentiality with a superior sense of ethics and fairness
- Attention to detail and strong communication skills and empathy
- Proactive and capable of working as a member of a team, as well as independently
- Ability to work under pressure – taking initiative, maintaining a sense of urgency while maintaining composure.
- Ability to access and accurately input information using a moderately complex computer system.
- Experience using HRIS systems. UKG preferred.
