Environmental Services Technician

DEPARTMENT:                  Environmental Services

REPORTS TO:                     Plant Operations Supervisor/Plant Operations Manager

POSITION SUMMARY:

• Is accountable for the delivery of consistently high quality cleaning during their assigned shift.
• Functions under the supervision of the Plant Operations Supervisor.
• Is accountable for the effective, efficient and safe operations of the Environmental Services office ensuring that the objectives of the Environmental Services department and the organization are met.
• Ensures appropriate organizational and patient safety practices are in use.
• Promotes good public relations through contacts with patients, practitioners, visitors, employees, peers and the public at large.
• Maintains confidentiality of patient information.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Performs a variety of general cleaning tasks to maintain patient rooms, office, hallways and other assigned areas of the hospital and offsite clinics/office in sanitary, orderly and aesthetic condition.
2. Disinfects all areas including patient rooms with detergent solution, cleaning cloths and disinfecting wipes.
3. Ensures cleaning related tasks are completed in a safe, competent, appropriate and timely manner.    
4. Trash removal.
5. Performs dusting, dry mopping and wet mopping activities.
6. Performs linen duties.
7. Operates floor equipment to maintain floors.
8. Maintains assigned equipment in working condition and has repairs made as needed, reports malfunction, cleans carts and closets.
9. Assists in maintaining established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality improvement program, safety, environmental and infection control standards. 
10. Assists in maintaining departmental reports and records as directed.  
11. Assists in implementing department specific goals and objectives in keeping with overall environmental services and organizational goals and objectives. 
12. Assists in maintaining adequate and effective communication between the environmental services and ancillary departments for problem solving.
13. Interacts with others (on the phone or in person) in a positive, professional and appropriate manner.
14. Works cooperatively with others.  Has respect for and an understanding of the contributions of all team members.
15. Attends required meetings and participates in educational programs and in-service meetings.  
16. Promotes a safe environment that allows for the delivery of high quality cleaning. 
17. Protects patient confidentiality by promoting appropriate staff communication practices.   
18. Works shifts as required.
19. Performs other duties as assigned.
