Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Grants and Assessment, the incumbent will assist with the coordination of various Academic Success programs, such as but not limited to the College of Engineering Tutoring Center, Engineering Honors Track, data compilation, and various center services. Furthermore, the incumbent will be responsible for advising third attempts by creating individualized tutoring schedules, along with providing additional advising support to the advising team during SOAR.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the College of Engineering Tutoring Center - Responsible for the regular operations of the College of Engineering Tutoring Center by acting as the main coordinator for the daily operations, which includes recruiting, training, scheduling, and managing all student workers. The incumbent also facilitates advertising engineering tutoring services, service logistics, and handling inquiries from faculty, staff, and students.
  • Coordinate Engineering Honors - Handle the coordination of the Engineering Honors Track by liaising with University Honors and with the COE Special Programs and Learning Communities Specialist on activities such as but not limited to engineering honors course scheduling.
  • Coordinate the Organization of other Center Services - The incumbent will manage all services and inquiries related to the center’s additional services such as but not limited to recruiting, training, managing, and scheduling all student workers supporting the services, along with handling the logistics and annual usage reporting for such services.
  • Assisting the Associate Director with data compilation - The incumbent will assist with data compilation based on internally maintained service logs and campus systems such as but not limited to PeopleSoft, CS Link, and BeachConnect. The individual will also assist with gathering and organizing data for assessment of COE programs.
  • Advising third attempts and SOAR - Responsible for advising students during Summer Orientation, Advising and Registration (SOAR) and those who have been approved for third attempts needing tutoring.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of CSU admission, General Education curriculum, and general academic advising policies, procedures, and practices preferred. The incumbent must possess effective written and oral communication skills, a high degree of personal motivation, and independent judgment. The incumbent must be able to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a diverse population of faculty/staff and adjust to change; function cooperatively and productively as a member of a unit; and demonstrate ability to perform assigned duties. Work well in a multicultural diverse community. Excellent organizational skills.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Education and Experience

Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field and two years of directly related experience required.

Master's degree in counseling, education, psychology, STEM education, or other social science disciplines and at least two years of work related to managing a student service preferred.

  • Sedentary work - Involves mainly sitting. Walking and standing are minimal. Lifting is limited to lightweight objects. (10 pounds or less).

Compensation

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,610 - $6,556 per month.

Time Base

1.0 time-base, 40 hours per week.

Duration of Appointment

This is a temporary position for 2 years with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
