Job Summary

The Admissions Coordinator/Recruiter (Post-Traditional Students) performs a range of professional student services duties in a centralized admissions environment. Under general supervision, the position advises prospective students and families on admission requirements and processes, coordinates recruitment activities, and supports the university’s enrollment goals. This position supports the university’s recruitment and enrollment initiatives in both state and self-support programs by conducting outreach to prospective students, with a particular emphasis on adult learners, stop-outs, and students with some college but no credential. This position will collaborate closely with the College of Professional and Continuing Education (CPaCE) marketing and enrollment team to identify prospective students, develop tailored messaging and resources, and execute outreach campaigns that highlight clear pathways for returning to CSULB. This position serves as the primary point of contact for individuals inquiring about returning to CSULB. Furthermore, the incumbent provides services that are equitable, inclusive, and culturally sensitive to enhance the quality of campus life. This position uses a student-centered and equity-minded approach in all communication and service efforts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Recruitment and Outreach: Develop and maintain liaison relationships with high schools, community colleges, community-based organizations, and adult learners.
  • Admissions Counseling and Advising: Apply CSU and campus admission policies and procedures to advise prospective students.
  • Program Coordination and Subject Matter Expertise: Provide specialized guidance to applicants, families, and counselors regarding program-specific requirements and opportunities.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Strong communication and public speaking skill; ability to conduct presentations to groups of varying sizes. Ability to interpret and apply admissions policies and provide clear guidance to students and families. Excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities. Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse stakeholders. Experience providing admissions counseling or equivalent advising experience. Ability to present to diverse audiences, including non-traditional and adult learners. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Experience in admissions, outreach, or enrollment services.

Demonstrated experience using CRM systems to manage recruitment and communication. Experience with adult learner recruitment, advising, or support services. Knowledge of enrollment management practices and marketing strategies in higher education. Familiarity with CSULB programs, services, and student populations. Experience representing a department/organization as knowledgeable and authoritative while remaining supportive, calm and professional even under highly charged circumstances. Ability to handle information in a confidential and professional manner. Ensures operational integrity and continuity by maintaining detailed descriptions of responsibilities, ranging from daily tasks to strategic activities and outcomes, and makes them available to supervisor. Ensures quality, usability and integrity of system data by working within approved processes and testing procedures.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Education And Experience

  • Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field and two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas required.

Physical Summary

Light work - Job involves some lifting of medium weight objects (10-20 pounds) and/or 10% - 20% of the job involves standing or walking.

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

Hiring Rate: The hiring range for this position is $5,083 per month.

CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $5,083 - $7,228 per month.

1.0 time-base, 40 hours per week.

Duration of Appointment

This is a temporary position for one year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.

Additional Information

The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 Revised July 21, 2017 as a condition of employment.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSULB will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
