Job Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Professional (DSP) to join our team. The DSP will provide essential support and care to individuals with developmental disabilities, helping them to lead self-directed lives and participate in their communities. This role involves assisting with daily activities, promoting independence, and ensuring the safety and well-being of our clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct care and support to individuals with disabilities in their homes, workplaces, and community settings.
- Assist with daily living activities meal preparation and household chores.
- Partner with the client and help support them in making informed decisions and everyday choices about their finances, well-being, relationships, and employment.
- Collaborate with team members to develop and implement person-centered support plans and strategies to promote skill development and independence.
- Accompany individuals to appointments, recreational activities, and community events.
- Administer medications or support medication management and maintain accurate health records as needed.
- Direct support professionals empower people they support to have meaningful, positive, and respectful relationships with friends, their families, team members and promote integration and inclusion in all communities.
- Foster a safe and supportive environment for clients, ensuring their physical and emotional well-being.
- Monitor and report any changes in clients’ conditions or behaviors to the appropriate personnel. (Case manager/Director)
- Maintain accurate documentation of client progress, activities, and incidents.
- Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge as required.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards and to all organizational policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or certification in human services, social work, or a related field is a plus.
- Previous experience working with individuals with disabilities is preferred but not required; training will be provided.
- Communication, written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to support and empower individuals with disabilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to pass a background check.
- Ability to complete documentation.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 20-30 pounds.
- Capability to assist individuals with mobility challenges.
- Stamina to perform various physical tasks and activities.
Work Schedule:
- Full-time and part-time positions available.
- Must be open to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 40 per week
