CAD ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN
PAY GRADE: 115 - $ 39,562.00 minimum salary
Purpose of Classification
Performs professional work in drafting support of assigned transportation programs or function. Duties include drafting of Public Works projects, Right of Way strip maps, and other drafting using computer-aided drafting equipment. Positions in this class perform routine technical and identify needed corrective actions to resolve discrepancies; answer questions; and maintain documents and records.
Essential Functions
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Draws plans for construction of road and drainage for all county roads including new and in need of repair; enters new subdivisions into 7 section map. Draw plans for utilities.
Assists in CAD drafting public works projects, including preparations of plans and profiles from field notes, draft final plans from redline design; assists in CAD drafting right of way strip maps by means of computer aided drafting equipment.
Assists in CAD drafting County map revisions; assists in Field surveying using the auto level, total station and data recorder; downloads information into the computer.
Assists in Inspection of construction projects and reporting observations. (Roads/Utilities); assists in deed research and prepares legal descriptions. Be knowledgeable of local entities easement regulations.
Draw design plans for filing; copies and/or distributes plans; establishes and maintains both automated and manual records and files; and performs record retention tasks as dictated by County policy.
Provides assistance and information to employees, managers, vendors, citizens, local businesses, and/or and other interested parties regarding assigned CAD engineering functions; serves as liaison between supervisors, vendors, and other departments in regards to department policies and activities. Explains policies and procedures.
Prepares various department documents requiring knowledge of department policies, programs, and procedures and which may involve researching, compiling, analyzing, retrieving and/or summarizing data.

Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
High School graduation or its equivalent, and a minimum of five (5) years of experience performing civil engineering drafting and/or mapping support work; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Knowledgeable in AUTOCAD Civil 3-D preferred.

Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert medium physical effort in medium work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of medium weight (20-50 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motion at a keyboard or work station.
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors: Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
This position is subject to a six (6) month probationary period prior to Civil Service eligibility. Must submit to a Civil Service Clerical Exam.
