What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Camp Counselor position at Camp Meadowbook - Jenkintown?
Assistant Lead Counselors are responsible for assisting the Lead Counselor with planning, coordinating, and teaching camp activities. Counselors must assist in the direction, supervision, and organization of campers within activities and throughout the camp. Counselors will lead a group of 5-15 children between 3 and 6 years of age during weekly themed activities. Summer 2024 programs will run from June 17th through August 9th
Essential Job Functions:
- Continually keep campers active and engaged in fun and challenging activities while maintaining a safe environment
- Assist with morning sign-in and afternoon dismissal of campers when needed
- Lead a group of up to 10 campers ages 3–6 with a fun, positive, and outgoing attitude
- Responsible for ensuring that the required cleaning has been completed throughout the day.
- Ensure all supplies and program needs are available at the time necessary for the campers and ensure that the campsite is clean and neat when activities are over
- Support the Lead Counselor in planning and leading activities
- Actively participate in all aspects of the day camp schedule as assigned
- Assist with Extended Day at least 2 days out of the week, 3pm to 5:30pm
- Attend pre-camp training week (June 11th - June 14th) and camp season trainings and meetings as scheduled
Qualifications & Skills:
- Must be at least 18 years of age and have prior experience in working with children and/or completion of child development classes offered in school
- Currently CPR and First Aid Certified
- One year working in a camp environment or coaching/teaching children preferred
- Meets the Child Protection Clearance of PA Act 153 to include PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and FBI Criminal Record Check
- Skilled in teaching a variety of crafts, songs, stories, games, sports, and related camp activities
- Must be able to effectively communicate with children and parents
- Must understand and be committed to working with diverse population
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to conduct recreational activities with youth equipment operation. Participate in all physical activities such as field sports, water play, and physical team building
Job Types: Full-time, Temporary
Pay: $525.00 - $600.00 per week
