Dates/Times

● Required Staff Development: Wednesday, May 29th, Thursday May 30th, and ½ day Friday, May 31st.

● 7 Weeks of Camp

○ Week 1: June 3rd - June 7th

○ Week 2: June 10th - June 14th

○ Week 3 and Week 4: June 17th - June 28th

■ No camp June 19th - Juneteenth

■ No camp July 1st - July 5th

○ Week 5: July 8th - July 12th

○ Week 6: July 15th - July 19th

○ Week 7: July 22nd - July 26th

● 8:00 - 5:00 PM M-F

● Weekends off

Description

The Arts & Crafts Program Specialist will lead hands-on arts and crafts activities for kids, including but not limited to drawing, painting, weaving, sewing (pillows, etc.), latch hooks, creative decorations and items, pottery, friendship bracelets and pins, tie-dye, and bringing the imagination to life. Campers will have the option to choose art as their weekly and/or daily choice. Campers will be rising PK-8th grade. This person will also help support general camp activities, be in charge of a bunk, and help lead Moon River Madness (an all-camp competition) when not in charge of a group for Arts and crafts. The Arts and Crafts Specialist will also be a bunk counselor.

Essential Job Functions

  • Deliver fun and meaningful Arts and Crafts programs to campers.
  • Ensure plans are prepared and implemented that meet the abilities of the campers. Ensure supplies are ordered and/or on hand in the proper quantities in plenty of time.
  • Demonstrate strong classroom management skills.
  • Effectively communicate expectations to counselors so they will be set up for success to assist in the art activity.
  • Ensure that camp staff and campers know and follow safety procedures during art activities.
  • Manage weekly tie-dye.
  • Oversee daily checks of the art area and equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good repair.
  • Oversee a counselor and J/CIT as available to assist with the art program

Other Job Duties

  • Attend staff meetings.
  • Participate enthusiastically in other camp activities, providing support and guidance to those assigned as leaders.
  • Participate as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special events, overnights, and other all-camp activities and camp functions.

Recommended

  • 21 or older.
  • Experience in the development and delivery of arts/crafts activities for similar populations (ideally at a school, camp, or recreation center).
  • Current instructional certification in the program or related experience.
  • Current certification in first aid and CPR.
  • An interview and a successful background check are required.

Physical Aspects of the Position

  • Ability to communicate and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff. Ability to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques.

  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.
  • Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess the strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.
  • Ability to address stressful situations appropriately in a fast-paced, interactive environment.

Some physical requirements of this position are eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate program equipment and program activities. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs. Additional requirements are endurance, including prolonged standing, some bending, stooping, walking, jogging or running, hiking, climbing, and stretching; requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate outdoor equipment and camp activities; requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs; willing to work irregular hours; and with daily exposure to the sun, heat, and bugs.

Job Types: Full-time, Temporary

Pay: $450.00 - $550.00 per week

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday
