LABORER

Laborers are primarily responsible for the safety of fellow teammates, and the environment. Laborers perform tasks associated with cleaning and repairing tank barges, as well as equipment cleanliness and maintenance. Performs tasks in all weather conditions outside. Work is performed on a 12-hour shift. This position will require overtime.

Essential Laborer Responsibilities:

Work in a safe manner at all times, following all company safety regulations and procedures.

• Inspect, correct or notify others of any conditions which affect the safety of people or equipment.
• Effectively use all safety equipment as required by company policies
• Remove material from barges using shovels, brooms, hoses, pumps, and vacuum trucks when appropriate.
• Operate pumps to dewater barges
• Clean outside areas and inside areas of barges in an environmentally appropriate fashion.
• Handle rigging during crane operations and signal the crane operator.
• Examine cables, wires, and lines to ensure they are fit for use.
• Use of appropriate power tools for repairs when necessary.
• Painting
• Entry of confined spaces in accordance with company policy
• Learn and adhere to all CTC policies, USCG, and federal regulations
• Patrolling the grounds, checking barges, and monitoring after-hours activity
• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Educational and Job Qualifications:

• Must possess or have the ability to possess Transportation Worker's Identification Card (TWIC)

Preferred Educational and Job Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Prior experience in a similar position within the marine industry
• Prior experience in a safety-sensitive position

Physical Capabilities:

Must be able to perform the following:

• Traverse barges a minimum of two (2) miles per day.
• Transport equipment of 60 to 100 pounds up to 1000 feet.
• Ascend/Descend a 90-degree ladder up to 40 feet.
• Move, transport, and position equipment up to 100 pounds.
• Position self to move through an 18-inch diameter hatch.
• Move two (2) feet horizontally and vertically.
• Maintain constant communication with team members.
• Ability to recognize and identify distant objects, and recognize distances between objects
• Constantly work in outdoor weather conditions.
• Constantly standing
• Work shift a min. of 8 hrs. (overtime could be required)
• Pass Respirator fit testing
