JOB SUMMARY
Under administrative supervision of the Site Director and/or Assistant Site Director and the day-to-day direction of the assigned Lead Teacher, assist the Lead Teacher in planning and providing a stimulating and comprehensive learning environment for infants, toddlers or pre-school children; assume lead teacher responsibilities in absence of the Lead Teacher; perform activities meeting Federal Early Head Start and Head Start Performance Standard HSPS 1304.21 and any regulatory standard regarding classroom activity.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
  • Comply with the education content mandates of the Head Start Performance Standards, program assessment, and work plans
  • Assist in the daily operations for the classrooms as a sub.
  • May assist peers with developing weekly lesson plans.
  • Utilize CAP-selected classroom support model to assist with classroom management.
  • Attend and assist with home visit and parent conferences.
  • Work cooperatively with all CAP employees, Family Support personnel, volunteers and collaborative partners.
  • Build and maintain good parent/teacher relationships to encourage parent involvement.
  • Assist with required documentation including, but not limited to: Monthly Reports, Attendance, Meal Count, Family Contacts and Child Injury Reports.
  • Complete the Lead Teacher's responsibilities in absence of the Lead Teacher.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
  • HS Diploma/GED with Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential (with appropriate endorsement), or in the process of obtaining CDA
  • Preference: Bachelors in Early Childhood Education with ECE Teaching Certificate, Bachelors or Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development, or Associates Degree in Family Relations/Child Development or a closely related education based discipline with 6 college courses that equal 18 credit hours in Early Childhood Education.
  • Experience working with infant, toddler or pre-school children.
  • Bilingual skills are not required, but they are preferred.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
  • Must have proven successful interpersonal relationship skills to maintain effective and satisfactory working relationships with intra-department and inter-department staff, vendors, clients, visitors, and contractors.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions with ability to read, interpret, and present information efficiently and effectively.
  • Must be able to accurately audit records and ensure compliance with written or oral guidelines.
  • Ability to take initiative, multi-task and work well under pressure.
  • Must maintain strict confidentiality of extremely sensitive data, records, files, conversations, etc
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL & MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Employee is subject to standing, stooping, walking, lifting, and carrying objects throughout daily job performance. Must be able to lift and carry fifty (50) pounds. Regular and reliable attendance is required
