Position Summary
Provide quality, comprehensive and appropriate dental care and services to patients. Provide supervision to Dental Assistants and Dental Hygienist(s) as assigned. Uphold the mission and vision of the organization.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
1. Provide routine and emergency dental services, including diagnosis and treatment plans,
general restorative procedures, crown and bridge construction, removable prosthetics,
uncomplicated endodontics and oral surgery.
2. Prescribe and interpret radiographs with documentation.
3. Safely administer appropriate types and doses of anesthetics and prescribe medications.
4. Refer patients for specialty care to other clinic programs or outside agencies as
appropriate. Follow up with referrals for continuity of care.
5. Supervise Dental Hygienist(s) and support staff.
6. Conduct follow-up patient care.
7. Provide dental and oral health education to patients and families.
8. Assist in reviewing clinic productivity, chart audits, scheduling procedures, and establishing guidelines for care and treatment.
9. Teach and train patients and staff on illness prevention.
10. Actively participate in community dental programs and outreach.
11. Assist with in-service and on-going training of clinic staff.
12. Build relationships and foster a high level of customer service.
13. Manage difficult clients and patients, demonstrating interpersonal savvy and influence
skills.
14. Exercise professional judgment in the performance of services provided consistent with
the organization’s policies and the standards of the dental profession.
15. Demonstrate high degree of knowledge and competency in the practice of dentistry and
associated charting requirements.
16. Perform assigned dental tasks using a high level of skill and ability.
17. Utilize computers for data entry and information retrieval with proficiency.
18. Utilize and monitor effectiveness and efficiency of all equipment and supplies used in the
delivery of services.
19. Communicate frequently with others in verbal and written communication.
20. Implement and evaluate operational and administrative processes.
21. Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
1. D.D.S or D.M.D from an accredited educational institution. Program must be accredited by the American Dental Association’s Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA)
Professional
2. Current, valid license to practice dentistry.
3. Other certifications as required by state including DEA, CPR, etc.
4. Demonstrated expertise in relevant dental practices, protocol, trends and best practices in
clinical areas assigned.
5. Demonstrated knowledge and success in effecting overall clinical operations.
6. Experience/Knowledge of FQHC's as well as all federal, state and local regulations and
standards associated with the delivery in a community health center environment.
7. Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and emergency situations successfully.
8. Proficiency in knowledge of office management, use of computer, software packages,
and office machines.
