Primary Purpose: Support the Machine Shop Manager in the day-to-day operations of the department. Assist with scheduling, personnel leadership, training, and execution of production goals. Ensure safety, quality, and productivity standards are upheld. Provide hands-on machining expertise and act as a bridge between shop floor team members and management. Serve as a working leader, modeling excellence in technical ability, mentorship, and problem-solving. Essential Job Duties And Responsibilities
- Support supervision and coordination of all machine shop activities and personnel during assigned shifts or focus areas.
- Provide daily direction and oversight for machinists to meet safety, quality, and delivery requirements.
- Assist in scheduling and prioritization of jobs based on production needs, material availability, and labor capacity.
- Serve as a technical mentor and trainer to machinists, especially in setups, programming, inspection, and complex machining tasks.
- Support and reinforce the use of ERP/digital traveler systems to maintain accuracy in job tracking, routing, and completion.
- Monitor adherence to standard operating procedures and escalate issues related to quality, tooling, or equipment downtime.
- Participate in root cause investigations, corrective actions, and process improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with the Machine Shop Manager on cross-training plans and succession planning for key roles.
- Serve as a backup to the Machine Shop Manager as needed, including facilitating team meetings, safety talks, or work planning sessions.
- Provide direct machining support on critical, complex, or short-lead jobs as necessary.
- Maintain a strong and consistent presence on the shop floor, act as liaison between employees and management.

- Minimum 5-8 years' experience in precision machining, preferably including setup and operation of CNC equipment.
- Working knowledge of G-Code and CAM systems preferred.
- Experience leading small teams or mentoring machinists strongly preferred.
- Proficiency with shop math and blueprint reading required.
- Familiarity with ERP or digital traveler systems is a plus.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the machine shop for extended periods.
- Must be able to lift and carry 50-100 lbs.
- Frequent bending, crouching, kneeling, and reaching.
- Regular use of hands and fingers for precise tool handling and machine operation.
