What Global EH&S and Security contributes to Cardinal Health

The Cardinal Health Global Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) team is responsible for designing, developing and implementing EHS procedures, programs, processes, and systems to ensure compliance with regulatory and company requirements. Additional responsibilities include mitigating EHS risks to the company, its employees, the environment and the communities in which it does business.

The Cardinal Health Global Security team is responsible for providing measures to safeguard Cardinal Health assets from circumstances that would cause loss or harm.  These risk mitigation measures include applying security concepts, developing and implementing security policies and procedures, and conducting security audits and investigations.

The Cardinal Health Global EHS and Security vision is to partner with our businesses and functions to proactively mitigate EHS and security-related risk across the enterprise. 

Position Overview

The EHS Advisor will report directly to the Nashville Area Environment, Health & Safety Manager.  The EHS Advisor role will report indirectly to the site Operations leader for the Cardinal Health 3PL facilities in the LaVergne, TN area.  This position is responsible for implementing EHS and security solutions in support of Cardinal Health assets in the LaVergne, TN area, which includes three (3) pharmaceutical distribution centers.  Additionally, this position may occasionally provide ad hoc EHS support for other Cardinal Health facilities in the LaVergne, TN area which includes an additional distribution Center, one (1) office facility, and a repackaging facility.  EHS and security solutions are designed to manage, mitigate, and whenever possible, eliminate EHS and security risks to Cardinal Health employees, facilities, products and the communities in which the company operates.

Responsibilities/Competencies

Leadership and Consulting - 35%

Assists with implementation of the global EHS & security strategy to mitigate risk to people, property, community, information and brand.  Partners with operation leaders to develop and execute site-specific annual EHS plans; standardize EHS and security programs; ensure critical information is communicated; and implement best practices.  Provides support and subject matter expertise for events (e.g., regulatory agency inquiries, theft, vandalism, natural disasters, business continuity, significant incidents, etc.).

Hazard Recognition, Evaluation and Control / Regulatory Compliance - 35%

Leads in the management of operation-specific EHS and security hazard assessments and the development of risk mitigation plans.  Partners with operation leaders to ensure compliance with Company and regulatory requirements.  Analyzes key EHS, sustainability and security metrics to assist operations in the construction and execution of continual improvement plans.  Assists leaders in identifying budgetary needs to address risk reduction and compliance assurance.  Ensures key performance metrics, including occupational injury/illness and environmental sustainability results are accurately reported and communicated.  Develops and maintains facility profiles. Assists with the response to regulatory agency inquiries and reporting obligations.  Participates in assessments and audits.  Provides technical assistance and guidance in risk-related matters, including ergonomics, industrial hygiene, safety, environmental, incident investigation, drug free workplace, loss prevention, business resiliency and occupational health processes.

Occupational Injury/Illness, Loss Prevention, Crisis Management, and Business Resiliency - 20%

Assist management teams in the investigation, notification and case management for occupational injury/illnesses. Conducts sensitive investigations on matters involving unauthorized disclosure, misuse, theft, vandalism, product tampering, espionage, sabotage and loss. Assists operations in close out of property/casualty recommendations from third parties such as FM Global.  Provides support in the development and implementation of business resiliency plans. Provides EHS and security leadership during business continuity situations.

Education and Mentorship - 10%

Educates and coaches management teams on their EHS and security roles and responsibilities. Helps foster a diverse workforce.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field, or equivalent work experience, preferred

  • Advanced degree and/or professional certification (CSP, CIH, CHMM, CPP, PSP, etc.) preferred

Technical Skills

  • Four years’ experience in related field, preferred

  • Familiarity, understanding and experience in EHSS Management Systems and their successful implementation

  • Working knowledge of hazardous waste regulations and experience with developing and implementing programs that ensure compliance

  • Strong substantive knowledge of regulations and guidance promulgated by Federal and State OSHA and EPA, as well as workers’ compensation requirements

  • Working knowledge of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 is a plus

  • Strong technical ability to work, collaborate and negotiate with government officials, consultants, and other third-party stakeholders

  • Requires routine travel between facilities in the LaVergne, TN area, and up to 20% travel elsewhere
