What the Principal OPEX Engineer contributes to Cardinal Health

Operational Excellence is responsible for identifying and executing against performance improvement opportunities, enabling successful transformations across the enterprise, and using contemporary process improvement techniques while building people capabilities.

They are responsible for consulting with internal or external customers and suppliers to assess current business performance, develop recommendations, and implement process improvements utilizing contemporary improvement tools.

Supporting the initiative execution within the Medical Segment’s Strategy by providing support to the Manufacturing site(s) and stakeholders.  The scope of the position is focused within Global Manufacturing and Supply Chain (GMSC), specifically supporting the Global Manufacturing segment.  Consultant, Black Belt is responsible for driving change by focusing on customers, employees, and processes resulting in a culture of excellence.  Black Belts identify and execute against performance improvement opportunities/initiatives across the enterprise using lean six sigma (LSS) process improvement tools.

• Support Cardinal Health's Manufacturing business strategy goals and broad cross-functional improvement opportunities including end to end processes throughout the segment
• Collaborate with GMSC Manufacturing teams to share successes, replicate best practices both from within and outside of Cardinal Health and accountable to ensure organization-wide achievement of annual manufacturing goals
• Support GMSC’s Manufacturing & Operational Excellence strategic direction within the region/sites
• Govern and monitor the effectiveness of management routines and metrics; recommend and implement changes as needed to ensure business objectives are met
• Be the Operational Excellence resources that develops initiatives to deliver direct cost savings for the site and region
• Collaborates with functional leads in the identification, discussion and prioritization of local, strategic improvement strategies
• Leads Operational Excellence activity and accountability across area of responsibility for optimal results
• Ensures individual alignment with site performance metrics and savings goals

Responsibilities

• Support the Medical Segment’s Manufacturing Operational Excellence initiatives within assigned region.  These initiatives include, but not limited to improvements in Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost. 
• Applies Operational Excellence and/or Manufacturing knowledge and a thorough understanding of concepts, principles, and technical capabilities to perform varied tasks and projects
• Implement Manufacturing process blueprints; Evaluate plants against the blueprint execution
• May works on complex projects of scope within multiple facilities
• Possesses Black Belt / Green Belt certification and pursues/obtains Black Belt certification, preferred
• Develops technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems. Solutions are innovative and consistent with organization objectives
• Experience with managing and driving operational excellence within the concepts of the perfect manufacturing plants
• Completes most work independently; receives general guidance on new projects
• May act as a mentor to less experienced colleagues

Qualifications

• 4-8 years of experience
• BA, BS or equivalent experience in related field. Advance Degree
• Advance proficiency in English/Spanish (read, write, speak)
• Experience working in or supporting a complex manufacturing facility(s), medical devices preferred
• Travel requirements:10-25%
