PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION
Under the general supervision of the Administrator, the Housekeeping Supervisor directs and supervises the housekeeping function to assure that all interior aspects of the facility are maintained in clean serviceable condition, in accordance with regulations, rules, and facility policy and procedure. Functions within constraints of policy and procedure consistent with accepted standards of institutional housekeeping.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Develop and implement housekeeping procedures consistent with regulations and accepted standards of institutional housekeeping; maintain a procedure manual specific to the facility.
- Maintain material data safety sheets.
- Organize and maintain all records necessary to operate the housekeeping department, i.e., workload records and statistics.
- Develop and implement cleaning schedules and establish work logs and checklists for daily, weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly housekeeping tasks.
- Recruit, interview and hire appropriate individuals to implement cleaning schedules.
- Orient new employees to housekeeping duties, evaluate performance, discipline, and recommend termination of staff in accordance with laws, regulations, and facility policy and procedure.
- Explain and interpret policy and procedure to subordinates.
- Supervise cleaning procedures and waste disposal procedures in accordance with facility policy.
- Supervise proper care and use of housekeeping equipment.
- Monitor staff adherence to policy and procedure and compliance with occupational safety procedures. Investigate incidents/injuries and non-compliance and take corrective action as needed.
- Identify and report to administration equipment in need of preventative/corrective maintenance and/or replacement, and schedule the service.
- Establish and maintain adequate inventories of housekeeping equipment and supplies and dispense in a cost-effective manner.
- Recommend supply vendors and service providers.

- Working knowledge of institutional housekeeping practices and standards.

Skills/Abilities
- Functional literacy in spoken and written English.
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal, communication, and supervisory skills.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Complete assignments timely, completely and accurately.
Delegation of Authority
Authority is delegated to the individual in this position to:
- Implement housekeeping policies and procedures to meet residents’ needs in compliance with federal, state and local requirements.
- Determine the personnel requirements for the housekeeping policies and procedures.
- Implement a monitoring system for the housekeeping department and make recommendations for implementation to assure compliance with federal, state and local requirements.
- Supervise the entire operation of the housekeeping department.
- Order or requisition sufficient supplies to operate the housekeeping department.
